Application Story – Fuel Consumption in Norway 4 Optimass 1300 C S25 meters were purchased for fuel monitoring on ferries in Norway with very good results. The first installation is now saving about 1000 litre diesel per day, which is about 120.000 Euro p.a. The second pair have now been commissioned on another ferry and we expect more orders to be forthcoming. The logging system is delivered by Bentzen Elektro. It uses 2 of our very precise OPTIMASS 1300C flow meters that measure the difference between input and output. One meter is on the input side of the fuel line and one on the return pipe. The difference measures the fuel consumption. The basis of the system is a 6.5’’ TFT colour screen displaying the consumption based on different criteria, like time or distance travelled. The screen has a touch function and is easy to operate. There is an alarm function to show when the consumption is too high. The log function is in the screen and is saved in an USB-stick, which can be down loaded to a PC to keep a history of consumed fuel. The system is very flexible and can be extended where required to log the consumption with regard to number of revolutions, pitch or speed, STRAIGHT TALK Copyright KROHNE, inc. , 2009 OPTIMASS Applications Page No.56
Application Story Czech Republic Custody Transfer A T25 Optimass Meter was installed for Propane/Butane emptying of rail tankers with a capacity of approximately 42000 kg at BP in the Czech Republic. Accuracies of 0.2 to 0.3% were repeatedly achieved which included the uncertainty of the weighbridge used for the railcars. Resolutions of these weighbridges are typically in the tens of kilograms! This meter is installed as a Custody Transfer meter according to Czech Republic guidelines and directives. All weather emptying from railway tanks using Optimass Another Optimass T25 for Custody Transfer was subsequently installed at BP in Dysina near the city of Pilsen filling tank-trucks with propane/butane. The measurement error is approx. 30 kg per 10000 kg of the gas, but it also comprises the error of the recomputation as the tank-trucks are filled according to mass but the distribution to end users is performed according to volume and the recomputation to mass is done acc. to special tables. Process Parameters Application:CT transfer of bulk Butane / Propane products Flow Rate: 12000 kg/h Pressure: 6-8 bar Temp: Ambient (-30 to +35°C) Process Parameters Application: CT transfer of bulk Butane / Propane products Flow Rate: Nominal flow rate of a 25 T is 34,500 kg/h, emptying at 14,000 kg/h (pressure drop 0,3 bar, velocity 15,4 m/s) Pressure: 7 to 12 bar Density: 560 kg/m3 Temperature: Ambient (-30 to +35°C) The installation in Dysina Why KROHNE?
