Biodiesel in Germany The photo at right shows one of 4 Optimass T 80 Custody Transfer meters installed in the Tanker loading station at Biowerk Sohland in the Lausitz area of Germany. This is where the Biodiesel produced in the factory is loaded from the storage tanks into the distribution vehicles. Following the establishment of Biowerk Sohland in 2002, another company, PPM Energie Germany GmbH, was established to build biodiesel plants like the existing installation for national and international customers with capacity between 8,000 and 50,000 t/a, with larger plants envisaged. Plants equipped with Optimass are now in Australia and Austria and 3 are being built for Hungary. They have already provided 6 plants in Germany. Above and right: some more of the Optimass meters installed in the production facility STRAIGHT TALK The Biodiesel Production facility here has a capacity of 25,000 tons pa. This facility also has 12 Optimass DN 15 and DN 25 installed. The oils used for transesterification include rape oil, sunflower oil, and used cooking oils amongst others. Raw glycerine is produced as a byproduct and this can be used by biogas production facilties. There are no other waste products and the methanol used for extraction is recovered and reused. Application Story – Chemical Industry in Switzerland Our new Tantalum OPTIMASS 7300 A15 is now installed in a vitamin production facility at this multinational chemical, pharmaceutical and nutritional company in Switzerland. Application: The Optimass 7300 C – A15 DN 25 PN 40 doses an aggressive fluid into a distillation column, where a vitamin is produced. The high flow velocity prevents deposition of the process medium on the inside of the tube. Technical data: Measuring range: 0-7000 Kg/h Density: 0.881 Kg/l Temperature: 78°C Pressure: 1.8 bar Why KROHNE: The only Straight Tube Tantalum meter on the market! With thanks to Marc Madacs of Krohne Switzerland for this application note. Copyright KROHNE, inc. , 2009 OPTIMASS Applications Page No.21
