It is dissolved in Methanol to form an approx. 12,5 % solution, which is added to the plant oil. Separation of Glycerin – phase and Methyl-Esters is done by gravity. The installation was tested against the custody transfer calibration verification equipment and the mass flow accuracy was 0,1 %. Volume flow also showed accuracy of better than 0,3 %. Process Parameters: Product : Organic oils and fats Mass Flow : 33000 kg/h and 16000 kg/h with batching of 2000 l Temperature : 31 °C Density : 0,872 kg/l Pressure : 6 bar Problem Accurate measurement and batching to Custody Transfer standards Solution Why did the client choose KROHNE? • High accuracy and repeatability • Cost savings due to accurate batching • Approved for Custody Transfer Copyright KROHNE, inc. , 2009 OPTIMASS Applications Page No.18 Application story

This facility also has 12 Optimass DN 15 and DN 25 installed. The oils used for transesterification include rape oil, sunflower oil, and used cooking oils amongst others. Raw glycerine is produced as a byproduct and this can be used by biogas production facilties. There are no other waste products and the methanol used for extraction is recovered and reused.
