Figure 3: This is the same 

pond nineteen years later, after 

the top and waterfall have been 

completely redone. The amount 

of direct sunlight is only about 

a half-hour or less a day. The 

Taisho Sanke in the right hand 

side of the picture is about 28" 

long.

Top picture shows filter hidden in plain 

sight. 

Only four Water Hyacinth and a few water 

lilies and the filter is now bursting at the 

seams. All this must be thinned out every 

fortnight.



Just some pictures to get an idea of how 

to set up filter and pond. Full sun or shad 

has very little effect on filtration capabilities.


The fish in this pond 

are over 18 years 

old. The Kin Matsuba 

was bought at 

6" and is now 27" 

long in1350gal 

pond. 




The male Kin Matsuba is the 

same one that is shown in the 

top picture but is now over 28" 

long and the female Chagoi is 

25" long. This photo taken 

four-years later, just look how 

clear the water is at 30" deep, 

and in full sun, too.


The waterfall was 

completely revamped 

and now 2400gph is 

being pumped 

through the Anoxic 

Filter, compared to 

the old setup, which 

only allowed about 

1800gph through the 

filter. 


The picture shows a 

male 

Kin Matsuba @ 

28"long and 

a female Bekko @ 

29"long. These Koi 

are fed three times 

a day and very 

heavily, @ almost 

80lbs of food is 

used in one season.

As you can see, crystalclear 

water that deceives 

the ponds actual 

depth of three feet. 



All the plants in this pond are 

potted up with Kitty litter and 

Laterite and look how well 

they’re growing without Nitrogen 

Fertilizer Tabs.
