Candidates for admission as students should consult the Announcement of the<br />
College of Home Economics, which the Secretary of the <strong>University</strong> will send free<br />
upon request.<br />
The College of Home Economics offers a four-year course leading<br />
to the degree of Bachelor of Science (B.S.). The college is supported<br />
by the State and is administered by<br />
the Board of Trustees of <strong>Cornell</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> through the agency of the State College Council, a body<br />
whose composition is described on pages io and 13. With respect to<br />
all academic interests the college is an integral part of the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
It was established in March, 1925, by<br />
an act of the Legislature<br />
which provided that "the School of Home Economics heretofore<br />
administered and maintained in the New York State College of<br />
Agriculture at <strong>Cornell</strong> <strong>University</strong> shall hereafter be known as the<br />
New York State College of Home Economics at <strong>Cornell</strong> <strong>University</strong>."<br />
The act defined the object of the college as "the improvement of<br />
human welfare by means of education, investigation, and extension<br />
teaching in the field of domestic science and art, including household<br />
and institutional economics,<br />
and allied<br />
subjects."<br />
In connection with the college and in cooperation with the Amer<br />
ican Hotel Association,<br />
a course for executives in hotels and in other<br />
institutions having housing and feeding problems has been organized.<br />
The college occupies a large building containing class rooms,<br />
laboratories, and a fully equipped "cafeteria restaurant, and makes<br />
regular use of a cottage on the campus for the practical instruction<br />
of its students.<br />
