COLLEGES AND OTHER DEPARTMENTS<br />
<strong>Cornell</strong> <strong>University</strong> comprises these colleges and other grand divi<br />
sions: The Graduate School, the College of Arts and Sciences, the<br />
College of Law, the College of Engineering, the College of Architec<br />
ture the Medical College, the New York State Veterinary College,<br />
the New York State College of Agriculture, and the New York State<br />
College of Home Economics. The New York State Agricultural<br />
Experiment Station at Geneva is administered by the Board of<br />
Trustees through the agency of the State College Council.<br />
The faculties of the several colleges and that of the Graduate<br />
School are denominated the special faculties. The President of the<br />
<strong>University</strong> is ex officio chairman of every special faculty.<br />
The departments of Military Science and Tactics, Physical Edu<br />
cation and Training, and Hygiene and Preventive Medicine are de<br />
partments of the <strong>University</strong>, being outside the organization of any<br />
of the colleges. The professors and assistant professors in those three<br />
departments are not members of any of the special faculties but are<br />
members of the <strong>University</strong> Faculty.<br />
THE GRADUATE SCHOOL<br />
Candidates for admission as students should consult the Announcement of the<br />
Graduate School, which the Secretary of the <strong>University</strong> will send free upon request.<br />
<strong>Cornell</strong> <strong>University</strong> confers the degree of Doctor of Philosophy<br />
(Ph.D.) and the degrees of Master of Arts (A.M.), Master of Science<br />
(M.S.), Master of Architecture (M.Arch.), Master of Civil Engineer<br />
ing (M.C.E.), Master of Mechanical Engineering (M.M.E.), Master<br />
of Electrical Engineering (M.E.E.), Master in Forestry (M.F.),<br />
Master in Landscape Architecture (M.L.A.), Master of Chemistry(M.<br />
Chem.), and Master of Science in Agriculture (M.$. in Agr.).<br />
The Graduate School has exclusive jurisdiction over all graduate<br />
work and advanced degrees. The President of the <strong>University</strong> is ex<br />
officio Chairman of the Faculty of the Graduate School, which con<br />
sists of all those members of the <strong>University</strong> staff who are actively<br />
engaged in supervising the work of graduate students. The Dean of<br />
the Graduate School is the executive officer of the Faculty.<br />
For the convenient discussion of questions which chiefly concern<br />
those persons who are engaged in related fields of work, the members<br />
of the Faculty of the Graduate School are divided into seven groups, as<br />
follows: Group A, Languages and Literatures; Group B, History,<br />
Political Science, Philosophy, Education; Group C, Mathematics,<br />
Astronomy, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Physical Geography;<br />
Group D, the Biological Sciences; Group E, Engineering, Architec<br />
ture, the Applied Physical Sciences; Group F, the Science Depart<br />
ments of the <strong>Cornell</strong> <strong>University</strong> Medical College in New York City;<br />
Agricultural Sciences.<br />
