as a derailed strategic maneuver during a civil war. Now it has become
a symbol of political resistance, and even a mission to educate the
Brazilian people (Drummond, 57). The only evidence of this function
during the year is the movement of these soldiers, zigzagging and circling
across the map of Brazil, almost like a dance or a six-day race. But so
long as Prestes keeps his followers in motion, they do not ask where he
is leading them.
