programme brochure, sitting mat, rain poncho and fleece
blanket. During backstage tours guests learn details about the
production and preparation of the opera.
Note: opera_lounge can be booked for groups of 10 persons

The 2012 festival season at the St. Margarethen Quarry
presents Georges Bizet´s famous opera Carmen full of
passion and popular melodies. This year´s production
returns to the large stage of the Roman quarry located
only an hour´s drive from Vienna.
From 11 July to 26 August, the largest natural amphitheatre
in Europe hosts Georges Bizet´s Carmen, one
of the most beloved operas of all times. The director
Robert Herzl creates a performance for all senses in the
St. Margarethen Opera Festival tradition. The spectacular
open-air arena with its 7,000 m 2 offers a breath-taking
backdrop for the ever-popular French opera.
Bizet´s Carmen, a tragic love-triangle full of jealousy,
intrigues, seduction and passion, tells the story of the
young factory worker from Seville. Don José cannot
resist her charms, his interest turns into obsession.
Beautiful arias, impressive natural setting and love
and passion on stage combine to a unique and
unforgettable evening of opera. Come and enjoy an
evening of passion at the St. Margarethen Quarry!
