The new pipe production center in use
Meyer Werft pipe proDuCtion Centre takes off
For more than six month‘s MEYER WERFT has been
working on a new pipe production centre. After the
move to Halls 1–3, which took a wide range of building
operations and investment of more than five
million euros, the centre was opened in late May.
The Lower Saxon premier David McAllister officially
launched the pipe production centre at a ceremony.
The centrepiece of the new centre is its fully automated
CNC piping machine. This unit receives data
straight from the design offices and can be used to
produce pipes with a diameter of 25 to 200 mm in a
fully automated process. This means far more pipes
can be bent, welded, flanged and otherwise processed
in a shorter time.
The cruise liners we build have complex supply and
disposal systems on board. More than 250 km of piping
is built into every liner. The aim of this investment
in the new pipe production centre is to improve
both productivity and quality.
The unit building section, part of the pipe production
centre, has also moved and started operating.
Units up to 6.5 x 15 m in size are constructed on eight
standard building lots. Rotary pillar cranes at each
workplace and specially developed gantries help
transport both components and whole units.
The investment in the new pipe production centre
also involved developing a new job control system
and intralogistics concept.
