Past – Present – Future
Originally in 1950 our hospital was
built in only 10 months as a
miners’ hospital, and was meant
to care for the health of the miners and
staff of the SDAG Wismut (Soviet German
Corporation Bismuth). Our house
lies in a well-kept park area which directly
borders big forests and this way dominates
the area resp. the territory. The
whole premises are around 13 hectares
in size. The estate and the biggest part
of the buildings are protected as historic
monuments because of the remarkable
architecture in the style of Neoclassicism
with Soviet character, which was considered
exemplary at this time. Typical for
this architecture is the backside entrance
vestibule with its impressive Doric pillars
as well as the symmetrically divided,
compact , block-like front of the main
building. The architectural monument in
its basic structure consists of a multiwing
main building (Building I), to which
three bigger extensions connect (Physiotherapy,
Dispensary/Radiology, Kitchen
building), a second smaller hospital or
ward building (Building II) as well as
other annexes have been added over
the years. Furthermore, in 2007 a new
building complex – the Clinic for Orthopedic
Post-hospital curative treatment
could be opened to the public officially.
In 1989 after the German unification the
hospital was undergoing serious changes.
On February 1, 1991 the former
Administrative district Schwarzenberg
became the new responsible body
for the hospital Erlabrunn with its
seven clinics and the associated
special units which were designated
as the District hospital. The
present wide spectrum of performance
in our house – since 2007 it
has eight clinics – results from this
development in the past. Because
of the originally relativly high number
of inhabitants in this area due
to mining the hospital was strongly
autarkic in economic and medical
fields. With the decrease of mining
and a declining population the house
was opened to the public and
began to take over tasks of primary
health care for the former district

Schwarzenberg as well as for the nearer
and farther neighbourhoods. From this
point of view the supra-regional tasks in
the context of the „Erlabrunn Concept”,
in the sense of a holistic treatment of our
patients, have to be understood, which
are fulfilled by the Clinic for Orthopedics
and Accident surgery or by the Clinic for
Psychotherapy and Psychosomatic
Medicine or by the Clinic for Orthopedic
Post-hospital curative treatment opened
in 2007.
In November 1997 the district government
Aue-Schwarzenberg decided that
the supporting organization of the district
hospital Erlabrunn starting from 1998
would be the CLINICS ERLABRUNN
gGmbH non-profit private limited company.
Today the CLINICS ERLABRUNN
gGmbH present themselves as a hospital
of upscale regular health care and
covers a wide spectrum of performance.
Again it has been awarded the KTQ certificate
for quality since 2003 and 2006
and is available not only to the people of
the district and its guests with health problems
but to everybody who wishes to
use our services. Besides high standards
of medical care with the highest
possible devotion to the patient, the CLI-
NICS ERLABRUNNgGmbH dedicates
itself to complex or holistic medical treatment.
„Health by accomplishment, quality and
devotion” are the principles of our house.
Quality management
Quality management at Erlabrunn Clinic gGmbH – more than a trend
We are a service-based
enterprise with the core
competence curing and
nursing. Like all organizations
in this field we
are obliged to work economically
in a sensible
and effective way. At an
enterprise providing services
by man for man in
accordance with our
integrated business philosophy
this means:
guaranteeing optimal
and financially viable
quality in caring for our
patients. Exactly because
of this aim in the past
and future we created
best preconditions in
the interest of our
patients, which are:
1. We have highly motivated and well
qualified staff members with much
professional experience.
2. Regarding the treatment quality we
not only trust the newest medical technical
development and experience but
from the beginning we support and
direct the quality through our system
of innovative quality management.
This data processing supported by
quality management has the following
focal characteristics:
. Orientation towards patients
. Orientation towards staff
. Safety in hospital
. Environment protection in hospital
. Information/documentation
. Risk management
. Financial controlling
It is a modular concept which is constantly
improved and also designed and
adapted according to current standards.
The fact that our clinic took part in the
pilot project in connection with the KTO
certificate(KTQ Cooperation for Quality
and Transparency in Healthcare) provides
clear proof of our achievement
potential. Our enterprise belonged to the
25 selected hospitals in Germany which
were able to gain experience in this
scientifically supervised study for the
benefit of our patients. In February 2003
we presented ourselves for the exam
and visitation to be awarded the certificate
Cooperation for Quality and Transparency
in Healthcare.
In March 2003 we were the first hospital
of the Administrative District Chemnitz,
the second hospital of the Free State of
Saxony and the seventh hospital of Germany
to gain exclusive certification according
to KTQ® standards. And we managed to
get this certificate as the hospital with the
biggest number of planned beds so far.
We are very proud of this, and deservedly
so. In February 2006 again we
defended the quality we lived until
then in the process of recertification.
The certificate Cooperation for Quality
and Transparency in Healthcare is
valid until March 30th, 2009.
We are on the right path. Quality
management is an important criterion
for the future of the value-added chain
of health care enterprises. An excellent
and sustainable quality management
is the basis of an active management
in the presence and future.
Quality for the ERLABRUNN CLI-
NICSgGmbH means the “customer”
patient will return to our house.

Overall concept of the Erlabrunn Clinics gGmbH
1. Our overall concept is our hallmark
of quality and at the same time our
commitment which mirrors our
humanistic ideas.
2. We respect the dignity of man and
hold him in high esteem.
3. Focusing on every person suffering
and asking for help we treat them
according to their individuality and
their differences.
4. Our enterprise and its clinics are
part of the health care system of the
Federal Republic of Germany and
strive for a beneficial relationship
with patients and cooperation partners.
We maintain good contacts with
health care insurance providers,
other service providers and medical
practitioners in private practice, care
facilities and all other institutions
treating our patients.
We strive for better and optimum
ways of cooperation. This process
goes along with transparency and
openness.
5. Our enterprise shows high performance
and progress. The staff performance
is based on knowledge,
science and orientates itself on
general ethical moral values.
We consider each justified complaint
as free guidance.
6. The clinics of our hospital are important
providers of health services and
are individually formed by a high
level of professionalism and commitment.
7. We support and request the interdisciplinary
exchange of experience
of our clinics and the close cooperation
with other innovative institutions
and authorities and the synergy
effects resulting from this.
8. Quality and costs of our services
are to a large extent controlled by
our staff which requires continuing
education as well as the eagerness
to learn.
9. The executive managers promote
all employees. Our enterprise supplies
the means for this. The creation
of appropriate and responsible
working places in all sections supports
the motivation of above-average
qualified employees.
10. The enterprise bears an important
social responsibility because of the
public mandate for health care. This
demands a high measure of integrity
from management and staff in the
implementation process. We provi-
de the guarantee to reach the medical
and care targets along with the
implementation of sensible hospital
work as determined by the hospital
operator.
11. The system for quality management
is the equipment used at work for
controlling and supervising quality,
costs and results of our performance.
Because of permanent demands it
is necessary to make the quality
management more flexible and to
integrate it into all processes of providing
services.
12. The company recognizes its special
responsibility to guarantee environmental
protection (Certificate: Member
of the Strategic Alliance for
Environment Saxony)
13. Our company cultivates a cooperative
management style, it initiates
team work at all levels. Each staff
member understands himself as the
partner of another one.
14. We know our knowledge and our
strengths but also our weaknesses.
We show pride in our strengths and
within the scope of the continuous
improvement process we work permanently
on improving them.
payments if these need to be made.
in Saxony.

A speciality which is carried out only by
few clinics is the endoprothetic surgery
of hip or knee joints on both sides under
one anaesthesia. Another focus are
exchange surgeries. Patients coming
from far beyond the territorial catchment
area are treated.
For treatment of patients with diseases
of the spine since 2002 beside the conservative
therapy
micro-invasive operations at the spine
are offered. To compensate bigger intraoperative
blood loss the possibility is
given to donate one’s own blood before
the operation and to use Cellsavers. For
this during and after the operation the
blood is collected. Blood plasma and
erythrocytes are separated, the patient
afterwards gets the erythrocytes as
transfusion.
For uncertain neurological findings at our
clinic a neurologist can be consulted and
the necessary neurophysiological examinations
(EMG, SEP, NLG and EEG) are
available.
At the consultation hours of the authorized
accident consultant injured persons
after occupational accidents or accidents
at school or patients with vocational
disease are attended to. Authorizing the
accident consultant professional associations
and accident funds make possible
an ambulant expert treatment by
experienced and specialized clinic physicians.
In this way victims of an occupational
accident can use the professional competence
of the hospital.
disappear. On the one
be ‘tried on a daily basis
in everyday life and on the
state-of-the-art
2007).
State-ofthe-art
single
rooms as well as a double room are available
for the accommodation of patients
and companions. The accommodation of
companions is possible depending on
the additional bed capacity option in the
patient rooms. Alternatively guest room
capacities can be used for that.
The patient rooms are bright and very
inviting with toilet, shower, TV, telephone
and refrigerator and suitably equipped
for the handicapped as well.
A generous dining-hall with bistro, a winter
garden with library, the exceptionally
A modern physical therapy department is
located in the post-hospital curative treatment
building (including
therapy pool and medical
exercise therapy
incl. isokinetics). The

Reception
equipment of the therapy pool is a particular
feature in physical therapy: a very
individual treatment of the patients on
three different levels (water depth: 0.60
m, 1.05 m and 1.35 m) is possible via a
liftable floor. In addition, the post-hospital
curative treatment has a very well equipped
ergotherapy department incl. skid
loom available. Furthermore patients
with metabolic disorders ( gout, diabetes
mellitus) can use the ADL-teaching kit-
chen (ADL-activities of daily life) under
the guidance of our professionally competent
and friendly staff.
The implementation of a rather rare complex
treatment concept from one hand is
possible through the post-hospital curative
treatment clinic within the context of
an integral treatment since this new
‘Erlabrunner Concept’ guarantees a
smooth transition from urgent care to
aftercare in the immediate neighborhood
of the patients’ place of residence. Furthermore
we are also available to externally
pre-operated patients for post-hospital
curative treatment and can also
Therapy pool Ergotherapy Winter garden
offer rehabilitative measures for conservatively
treated orthopedic illnesses. In
particular the medical and nursing care
of our patients occur by using a very individual
and especially integral approach.
The quiet location of the Clinic
for Orthopedic post-hospital
curative treatment, scenically
embedded in the
Erzgebirge (Ore mountains),
adds to the
recovery. This is
accompanied by
cultural offerings.
law (GMG) the Surgery Outpatient
department and respectively the outpatient
centre of the clinics
Erlabrunn gGmbH offers comprehensive
diagnostic, medical–therapeutic and nursing
care prior to, during and after outpatient
operative surgeries and those
performed outside of the ward.
Based on legal guidelines you can no
longer decide yourself whether a required
operative surgery is to be implemented
in an inpatient or outpatient manner.
This is now specified through the lawmaker
in a comprehensive catalogue
which is available to your responsible
doctor and is obligatory to the health
insurance company. The admission to
our OP-clinic takes place after the diagnosis
by your family doctor and medical
specialist via a letter of
referral. The
final diagno-
sis for required treatment is performed
by our hospital medical specialists during
respective office hours.
With immediate effect of the statutory
health insurance hospitals are also
increasingly permitted to perform outpatient
endoscopies.
Unlike with inpatient stays, the patient no
longer remains hospitalized after surgery
has been performed with general narcosis
or regional and local anaesthesia.
As special service the Erlabrunn Clinics
gGmbH however offer the option of a
subsequent free of charge inpatient
overnight stay including a final ward
round in the morning. That way a risk
minimizing is guaranteed which serves
your own safety. You yourself or your
family doctor can get in touch with us for
the purpose of setting an appointment
during consultation hours. The outpatient
surgeries in our place are subject to the
same high quality standards that apply to
inpatient surgeries.
Upon consultation with your family doctor,
aftercare is possible through the
representatives of our facility up to 14
days after the outpatient surgery. Even
after the in-patient operation or respectively
the surgery, we feel responsible for
you and are glad to be at your disposal
within the coverage which was specified.
The time of your stay in our house is limited
relationship between you, the
doctors, the nursing staff and the other
employees. Everyone is anxious to meet
your needs and expectations in connection
with the medical necessities.
Recovery stands out as the aim for all
activities. Please support us through
your own will and corresponding conduct.
Scope of treatment augmented by personal
consultations is specified by your
doctor.
You expect the precise diagnosis of your
illness and its quick, successful treatment
by the doctor. Our experienced
their treatment.
You yourself can assist with the diagnosis
as well as therapy with clear statements
about the effects of different treatment
methods and medications and
especially by complying with therapy
instructions.
You may not in
your own interest
use medications
which are brought
consulting the
attending doctor.
Otherwise you yourself could delay your
recovery process or even bring yourself
into a life-threatening situation.
in a very careful manner by trained
staff.
Have confidence in the doctors of the
house and please comply with their
instructions.
It is understandable that your dependants
also want to know how you are
doing. Information is only provided with
your consent. A prior appointment with
your ward physician
is most
advisable in that
matter.
