Past – Present – Future
Originally in 1950 our hospital was
built in only 10 months as a
miners’ hospital, and was meant
to care for the health of the miners and
staff of the SDAG Wismut (Soviet German
Corporation Bismuth). Our house
lies in a well-kept park area which directly
borders big forests and this way dominates
the area resp. the territory. The
whole premises are around 13 hectares
in size. The estate and the biggest part
of the buildings are protected as historic
monuments because of the remarkable
architecture in the style of Neoclassicism
with Soviet character, which was considered
exemplary at this time. Typical for
this architecture is the backside entrance
vestibule with its impressive Doric pillars
as well as the symmetrically divided,
compact , block-like front of the main
building. The architectural monument in
its basic structure consists of a multiwing
main building (Building I), to which
three bigger extensions connect (Physiotherapy,
Dispensary/Radiology, Kitchen
building), a second smaller hospital or
ward building (Building II) as well as
other annexes have been added over
the years. Furthermore, in 2007 a new
building complex – the Clinic for Orthopedic
Post-hospital curative treatment
could be opened to the public officially.
In 1989 after the German unification the
hospital was undergoing serious changes.
On February 1, 1991 the former
Administrative district Schwarzenberg
became the new responsible body
for the hospital Erlabrunn with its
seven clinics and the associated
special units which were designated
as the District hospital. The
present wide spectrum of performance
in our house – since 2007 it
has eight clinics – results from this
development in the past. Because
of the originally relativly high number
of inhabitants in this area due
to mining the hospital was strongly
autarkic in economic and medical
fields. With the decrease of mining
and a declining population the house
was opened to the public and
began to take over tasks of primary
health care for the former district

Schwarzenberg as well as for the nearer
and farther neighbourhoods. From this
point of view the supra-regional tasks in
the context of the „Erlabrunn Concept”,
in the sense of a holistic treatment of our
patients, have to be understood, which
are fulfilled by the Clinic for Orthopedics
and Accident surgery or by the Clinic for
Psychotherapy and Psychosomatic
Medicine or by the Clinic for Orthopedic
Post-hospital curative treatment opened
in 2007.
In November 1997 the district government
Aue-Schwarzenberg decided that
the supporting organization of the district
hospital Erlabrunn starting from 1998
would be the CLINICS ERLABRUNN
gGmbH non-profit private limited company.
Today the CLINICS ERLABRUNN
gGmbH present themselves as a hospital
of upscale regular health care and
covers a wide spectrum of performance.
Again it has been awarded the KTQ certificate
for quality since 2003 and 2006
and is available not only to the people of
the district and its guests with health problems
but to everybody who wishes to
use our services. Besides high standards
of medical care with the highest
possible devotion to the patient, the CLI-
NICS ERLABRUNNgGmbH dedicates
itself to complex or holistic medical treatment.
„Health by accomplishment, quality and
devotion” are the principles of our house.

It is a modular concept which is constantly
improved and also designed and
adapted according to current standards.
The fact that our clinic took part in the
pilot project in connection with the KTO
certificate(KTQ Cooperation for Quality
and Transparency in Healthcare) provides
clear proof of our achievement
potential. Our enterprise belonged to the
25 selected hospitals in Germany which
were able to gain experience in this
scientifically supervised study for the
benefit of our patients. In February 2003
we presented ourselves for the exam
and visitation to be awarded the certificate
Cooperation for Quality and Transparency
in Healthcare.
In March 2003 we were the first hospital
of the Administrative District Chemnitz,
the second hospital of the Free State of
Saxony and the seventh hospital of Germany
to gain exclusive certification according
to KTQ® standards. And we managed to
get this certificate as the hospital with the
biggest number of planned beds so far.
We are very proud of this, and deservedly
so. In February 2006 again we
defended the quality we lived until
then in the process of recertification.
The certificate Cooperation for Quality
and Transparency in Healthcare is
valid until March 30th, 2009.
We are on the right path. Quality
management is an important criterion
for the future of the value-added chain
of health care enterprises. An excellent
and sustainable quality management
is the basis of an active management
in the presence and future.
Quality for the ERLABRUNN CLI-
NICSgGmbH means the “customer”
patient will return to our house.

How to find us
You can reach the CLINICS
ERLABRUNN gGmbH by car
coming from the autobahn A 4 (exit
Mosel), going through Zwickau in the
direction of Schneeberg –Aue (B 93), following
the route via Lauter – Schwarzenberg
(B 101) in the direction of Johanngeorgenstadt.
Or you can take the A 72
(exit Stollberg-West) in the direction of
Aue via Lauter – Schwarzenberg (B 101)
in the direction of Johanngeorgenstadt.
You will find the CLINICS ERLABRUNN
gGmbH on the Northwest outskirts of
Erlabrunn, which is a community of the
township Breitenbrunn. It can very easily
be reached by car within 15 minutes
from the town Schwarzenberg via a well
constructed valley street in the direction
ERLABRUNN
of Johanngeorgenstadt. Another possibility
would be to use public transport or
train services from the railway station
just approx. 800 m walk from the clinics.
Park in a permitted place in front of or
inside the hospital premises. Before passing
our gates your relatives can use the
visitors’ parking site.

Admission
Please contact the admission of our
house first, irregardless of whether
you will stay at the hospital as an
outpatient or as an inpatient after your
arrival. For your registration we have to
ask you some questions and hope you
will understand this. It is necessary to
have a written referral to hospital from
your treating doctor unless there are
emergencies and attending ambulant
surgeries for admission to a hospital.
Most of the patients do not need to be
concerned with the financial obligation of
their stay in hospital, at least not directly.
If they are a member of a statutory health
insurance, our house settles things
directly with your insurance. At the
moment members of the statutory health
insurance have to make an additional
payment for no longer than 28 days within
one calendar year with the beginning
of the in-patient treatment. For attending
ambulant surgery it is necessary to settle
the respective surgery fee within one
quarter either with the referring physician
or at our house.
The law and the health insurance companies
determine the amount of additional
payments if these need to be made.
The Erlabrunn Clinics gGmbH shall
receive the specific amount from you
and will transfer it to your health insurance
company. For later settlement please
keep the receipt in a safe place.

Admission
If you wish you can be also treated by
the chief physician. Don’t hesitate to
contact the ward staff. As a special service
we offer the overnight stay free of
charge after an ambulant surgery, including
the final ward round in the morning.
We ask you to tell the nursing staff at the
operating outpatient department which
type of catering you wish.
Furthermore you can choose the
following services of our house:

- telephone; basic fee: 1.00 € / day,
charge per unit: 0.10 € per unit of
the call
* For the day of admission and discharge
only one day is charged.
You can use telephone and/or TV set
only with the help of a chip card which
you get after making a deposit of 10.00 €
at the reception desk. When you leave
hospital you please insert your chip card
into the pay machine. You will get back
the deposit and a possible credit balance.
The chip card will be retained. If you
should loose the credit card unfortunately
indemnity requirements to the Erlabrunn
Clinics gGmbH are excluded.
Entrance area / Building 1
Furthermore we gladly sell you at cost
– picture postcards and
– stamps.
We also order a taxi for you, change
money and give you telephone numbers
and time-tables.
For your stay in hospital you should bring
along toilet articles (towels, washcloths
etc.), if applicable swimwear or casual
wear as well as bathroom slippers and
slippers, clothing and sleepwear, a robe
or bath robe. Understandably, the space
available to you in the patients room is
only limited. Therefore please bring
along only the things you absolutely
need. We recommend to deposit money
and valuables against receipt at the
administration. We can only assume liability
for articles in your patient’s wardrobe
if it has been locked by you.

Of course, every stay in hospital is
more or less a strain. Therefore
we try to offer our patients as
much comfort as possible. Surely you
feel comfortable in the clean, friendly
rooms, increasingly equipped at highlevel,
and having a nice view into scenic
nature.
When you are well again to leave your
bed you can take leisurely strolls in our
park which will help you to regain your
forces. After a devastating tornado in
summer 2005 this park area could be
restored by the spontaneous and overwhelming
help of many. The patients and
guests especially like the babies’ alley.
Park of sculptures
Also a good relationship with other patients
can influence your mood and with
this your stay at our house positively.
Every time you will find a cosy corner for
a chat with your visitors or with your new
acquaintance from the room next door at
the cafeteria. In summertime the patio
café invites you to sit in the green. Our
house offers you a large cultural program
details of which you will find in the event
programme of the month.

and quality of endoprosthesic
surgery this clinic ranks
among the high-performance
institutions of this discipline
in Saxony.

A speciality which is carried out only by
few clinics is the endoprothetic surgery
of hip or knee joints on both sides under
one anaesthesia. Another focus are
exchange surgeries. Patients coming
from far beyond the territorial catchment
area are treated.
For treatment of patients with diseases
of the spine since 2002 beside the conservative
therapy
micro-invasive operations at the spine
are offered. To compensate bigger intraoperative
blood loss the possibility is
given to donate one’s own blood before
the operation and to use Cellsavers. For
this during and after the operation the
blood is collected. Blood plasma and
erythrocytes are separated, the patient
afterwards gets the erythrocytes as
transfusion.
For uncertain neurological findings at our
clinic a neurologist can be consulted and
the necessary neurophysiological examinations
(EMG, SEP, NLG and EEG) are
available.
At the consultation hours of the authorized
accident consultant injured persons
after occupational accidents or accidents
at school or patients with vocational
disease are attended to. Authorizing the
accident consultant professional associations
and accident funds make possible
an ambulant expert treatment by
experienced and specialized clinic physicians.

diagnostic, medical–therapeutic and nursing
care prior to, during and after outpatient
operative surgeries and those
performed outside of the ward.
Based on legal guidelines you can no
longer decide yourself whether a required
operative surgery is to be implemented
in an inpatient or outpatient manner.
This is now specified through the lawmaker
in a comprehensive catalogue
which is available to your responsible
doctor and is obligatory to the health
insurance company. The admission to
our OP-clinic takes place after the diagnosis
by your family doctor and medical
specialist via a letter of
referral. The
final diagno-
sis for required treatment is performed
by our hospital medical specialists during
respective office hours.
With immediate effect of the statutory
health insurance hospitals are also
increasingly permitted to perform outpatient
endoscopies.
Unlike with inpatient stays, the patient no

Nighttime rest starts at 10:00 pm. All visitors are obliged to leave the house at this point of time. Other hospital visits are possible
at any time when agreed with the respective ward physician and ward management.

Your Discharge
The doctor arranges your discharge
as soon as your health has
returned to a state which
no longer requires treatment
by the hospital.
Please do not forget to
collect your deposits or
sums of money you
possibly left behind and
return all items (like
splints, walking aids)
borrowed from the hospital
as well as books in
an orderly condition.
Please also remember
to settle other payment
obligations. As already
mentioned, please have
possibly overpaid additional
contributions
reimbursed to you.
At your ward the nursing staff takes care
of the discharge formalities.
Should there be the need for
a return transport by taxi
to your domestic neighborhood,
then trustfully
approach your station nurse.
