CELEBRATE AMERICA!
The City of Alabaster Parks and
Recreation Department is teaming up
with Kingwood Church and local vendors
to host the 3rd annual Citywide
Independence day celebration on
Saturday, June 30th at Veterans Park
from 4pm till 11pm. The event will
feature family friendly activities such
as: music, inflatables and a variety of
food from local restaurants. A fulllength
choreographed fireworks display
will begin at 9:30 pm. A short
Loony Toons video will precede the
fireworks show. The general public is
invited to come and enjoy this free, fun and patriotic event.
FOOTBALL & CHEER SIGNUP
Registration for Thompson Youth Football and Cheer
began on May 21st and will run through June 9th. Registration
forms can be turned in at our office between 8am and 5pm weekdays
or between 9am and 2pm on Saturday, June 9th. The cost
will be $160. We do not accept checks. Payment may be made
with cash, debit, Visa or Mastercard.
BASEBALL/SOFTBALL
The 2012 season has come to an end. We would like to wish
all of our all-star teams the best of luck as they compete during
the month of June. We would also like to thank all of the parent
volunteers for their time and dedication this season.
ACCC TOURNAMENT
We’d like to congratulate Wallace State Hanceville on their
State championship in the Alabama Community College
Conference tournament that was held at Veterans Park May 4-6.
MOVIES IN THE PARK
All movies are at Veterans Park and start around 8:15 pm.
Please come out and bring chairs and blankets and join us for an
evening of fun. May 25th- Kung Fu Panda 2
June 8th- Toy Story 3 June 22nd- Hotel for Dogs
Empower - Therapeutic Recreation
EMPOWER – Therapeutic Recreation focuses on providing
recreation and leisure opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
All programs are designed and supervised by a Certified
Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. We work on social skills, physical
skills, life skills, and independence while having FUN!
Summer Programs: Space is limited and you must have completed
an assessment! Call Alicia at 663-1307 for more information.
LIFE- (Leisure, Independence, Functional, Experiences)
Tuesdays, June 5, 19, 26 Open to high school students and
young adults with disabilities- age 16-25. We will go out into
the community and learn practical and functional life skills
(ex. Grocery shopping, cooking, bowling and movie). We will
focus on independence.
Art and More - Tuesday, July 10, 17, 24 Open to high school
students and young adults with disabilities age 16-25. This program
will offer the participants the opportunity to experience a
variety of art mediums. We will do ceramics, kiln glass painting
and a creative craft.
Dinner and a Movie Friday, August 3
Open to children/adults with disabilities- age 16-25.

SOCCER CAMP
University of Montevallo will be conducting a soccer camp
June 18th thru 22nd from 9am to 3pm each day. The camp will
be for kids 7 to 14. Cost is $175. They will also have a mini-camp
for ages 5-6 from 9 am to 12pm each day. Cost is $95. For more
