CELEBRATE AMERICA!<br />

The <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alabaster</strong> Parks and<br />

Recreation Department is teaming up<br />

with Kingwood Church and local vendors<br />

to host the 3rd annual <strong>City</strong>wide<br />

Independence day celebration on<br />

Saturday, <strong>June</strong> 30th at Veterans Park<br />

from 4pm till 11pm. The event will<br />

feature family friendly activities such<br />

as: music, inflatables and a variety <strong>of</strong><br />

food from local restaurants. A fulllength<br />

choreographed fireworks display<br />

will begin at 9:30 pm. A short<br />

Loony Toons video will precede the<br />

fireworks show. The general public is<br />

invited to come and enjoy this free, fun and patriotic event.<br />

FOOTBALL & CHEER SIGNUP<br />

Registration for Thompson Youth Football and Cheer<br />

began on May 21st and will run through <strong>June</strong> 9th. Registration<br />

forms can be turned in at our <strong>of</strong>fice between 8am and 5pm weekdays<br />

or between 9am and 2pm on Saturday, <strong>June</strong> 9th. The cost<br />

will be $160. We do not accept checks. Payment may be made<br />

with cash, debit, Visa or Mastercard.<br />

BASEBALL/SOFTBALL<br />

The 2012 season has come to an end. We would like to wish<br />

all <strong>of</strong> our all-star teams the best <strong>of</strong> luck as they compete during<br />

the month <strong>of</strong> <strong>June</strong>. We would also like to thank all <strong>of</strong> the parent<br />

volunteers for their time and dedication this season.<br />

ACCC TOURNAMENT<br />

We’d like to congratulate Wallace State Hanceville on their<br />

State championship in the Alabama Community College<br />

Conference tournament that was held at Veterans Park May 4-6.<br />

MOVIES IN THE PARK<br />

All movies are at Veterans Park and start around 8:15 pm.<br />

Please come out and bring chairs and blankets and join us for an<br />

evening <strong>of</strong> fun. May 25th- Kung Fu Panda 2<br />

<strong>June</strong> 8th- Toy Story 3 <strong>June</strong> 22nd- Hotel for Dogs<br />

Empower - Therapeutic Recreation<br />

EMPOWER – Therapeutic Recreation focuses on providing<br />

recreation and leisure opportunities for individuals with disabilities.<br />

All programs are designed and supervised by a Certified<br />

Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. We work on social skills, physical<br />

skills, life skills, and independence while having FUN!<br />

Summer Programs: Space is limited and you must have completed<br />

an assessment! Call Alicia at 663-1307 for more information.<br />

LIFE- (Leisure, Independence, Functional, Experiences)<br />

Tuesdays, <strong>June</strong> 5, 19, 26 Open to high school students and<br />

young adults with disabilities- age 16-25. We will go out into<br />

the community and learn practical and functional life skills<br />

(ex. Grocery shopping, cooking, bowling and movie). We will<br />

focus on independence.<br />

Art and More - Tuesday, July 10, 17, 24 Open to high school<br />

students and young adults with disabilities age 16-25. This program<br />

will <strong>of</strong>fer the participants the opportunity to experience a<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> art mediums. We will do ceramics, kiln glass painting<br />

and a creative craft.<br />

Dinner and a Movie Friday, August 3<br />

Open to children/adults with disabilities- age 16-25.<br />

SOCCER CAMP<br />

University <strong>of</strong> Montevallo will be conducting a soccer camp<br />

<strong>June</strong> 18th thru 22nd from 9am to 3pm each day. The camp will<br />

be for kids 7 to 14. Cost is $175. They will also have a mini-camp<br />

for ages 5-6 from 9 am to 12pm each day. Cost is $95. For more<br />
