CPHS COACHING STAFF<br />
Phil Burnett,<br />
Defensive Line<br />
Phil Burnett is entering his 1 st season on<br />
the Bulldog staff. Coach Burnett is a graduate<br />
of Hobart High <strong>School</strong> (1983), Northern<br />
Illinois University (B.S. 1988), and Oregon<br />
State University (M.S. 1992). He played collegiately<br />
at Northern Illinois University and<br />
has since spent time coaching defensive<br />
football in the college ranks at Northern<br />
Illinois University, Oregon State University,<br />
Defiance College, Califormia University of<br />
Pennsylvania, Ball State University, and<br />
University of North Carolina – Pembroke.<br />
Coach Burnett resides in Hobart.<br />
Nick Jones,<br />
Offensive Line<br />
Nick Jones is entering his 1 st season<br />
as a member of the <strong>Crown</strong><br />
<strong>Point</strong> football staff. Coach Jones<br />
is a graduate of <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong> High<br />
<strong>School</strong> (2009) where he was an<br />
offensive and defensive lineman. He<br />
is continuing his formal education in<br />
the <strong>School</strong> of Education at Indiana<br />
University Northwest. Coach Jones<br />
resides in <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong>.<br />
Mike Depta,<br />
Freshman Assistant Coach<br />
Mike Depta is entering 5 th season with the<br />
<strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong> football staff. Coach Depta<br />
is a graduate of Merrillville High <strong>School</strong><br />
(1988), St. Joseph College (B.S. 1992),<br />
and Indiana University M.S. (1996). Coach<br />
Depta has over 18 years teaching and<br />
coaching experience with stops at Edison<br />
High <strong>School</strong>, Highland Middle and High<br />
<strong>School</strong>s, Taft and Wheeler Middle <strong>School</strong>s,<br />
and <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong> High <strong>School</strong>. He has<br />
coached both offensive and defensive football.<br />
Coach Depta and his wife Maggie<br />
reside in <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong> with their children<br />
Ben (13), Mia (9), and Ellie (6).<br />
Mark Garrett,<br />
Strength & Conditioning<br />
Mark Garrett is beginning his 4 th season<br />
as <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong> High <strong>School</strong>’s strength and<br />
conditioning coordinator. Prior to <strong>Crown</strong><br />
<strong>Point</strong> High <strong>School</strong>, Mark was strength coach<br />
at Milan High <strong>School</strong> in southern Indiana<br />
near Cincinnati. While at Milan, Coach<br />
Garrett oversaw the development of athletes<br />
that won over 40 team championships in<br />
ten different sports. Coach Garrett also<br />
started the Hoosier Barbell Club, an Olympic<br />
weightlifting team at CPHS. Coach Garrett is<br />
a graduate of Cloverdale High <strong>School</strong> (1988),<br />
and the University of Maine – Presque Isle<br />
(1992). Coach Garrett and his wife Wendi<br />
live in <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong> with their three children,<br />
A.J. (10), Kerry (8), and Michael (5).<br />
Matt McCaleb,<br />
Freshman Assistant Coach<br />
Matt McCaleb is beginning his 9 th season<br />
with the <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong> staff. This is Matt’s<br />
6th season with the freshman team. Prior<br />
to working with the 9th grade squad,<br />
Coach McCaleb was the head coach at<br />
Taft Middle <strong>School</strong> in <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong>. Matt<br />
is a graduate of Chesterton High <strong>School</strong><br />
(1997) and Valparaiso University (B.S.<br />
2001). Coach McCaleb teaches United<br />
States Government at CPHS. He is also a<br />
varsity assistant coach for the <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong><br />
baseball team. Coach McCaleb resides in<br />
<strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong>.<br />
Tom Gulbrandsen,<br />
Asst. Defensive Backs<br />
Tom Gulbrandsen is entering his 5 th season<br />
as an assistant coach working with<br />
the defensive backs. Coach Gulbrandsen<br />
is a graduate of Addison Trail High <strong>School</strong><br />
(1975) in Addison, Illinois. He earned<br />
his bachelor’s degree from Illinois State<br />
University in Normal, Illinois. Tom has<br />
been a 15-year volunteer for the Bulldog<br />
football program. Coach Gulbrandsen<br />
resides in <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong> and is proud to<br />
have raised two CPHS graduates: Sara<br />
(1999) and Eric (2003).<br />
Trent Trump,<br />
Head Trainer<br />
Trent Trump is beginning his 17 th<br />
season as the athletic trainer for<br />
the Bulldogs. Trent is a graduate<br />
of <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong> High <strong>School</strong><br />
(1991) and Ball State University<br />
(B.S. 1995), where he earned his<br />
degree in <strong>Athletic</strong> Training. Trent<br />
and his wife Mary Ellen reside<br />
in <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong> with their son<br />
Ethan (9).<br />
Jake Rodriguez,<br />
Freshman Head Coach<br />
Jake Rodriguez is beginning his 8th<br />
season with the <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong> football<br />
staff. This is Coach Rodriguez’s 6th<br />
season as the freshman head coach.<br />
Prior to his stint as head coach, Coach<br />
Rodriguez was the freshman defensive<br />
coordinator. Coach Rodriguez<br />
teaches physical education at <strong>Crown</strong><br />
<strong>Point</strong> High <strong>School</strong> and is a varsity<br />
wrestling coach. Coach Rodriguez<br />
and his wife Jen reside in <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong><br />
and have a daughter Ava (1).<br />
Branden Lorek,<br />
Freshman Assistant Coach<br />
Branden Lorek begins his 4th year with<br />
the Bulldog Football program serving as a<br />
Freshman Assistant Coach. Branden graduated<br />
from Fenton High <strong>School</strong>, in Bensenville,<br />
Illinois (2000). Coach Lorek received a bachelor’s<br />
degree from Southern Illinois University-<br />
Edwardsville. He was also a four-year member<br />
of the wresting team. Branden is currently<br />
teaching special education at <strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong><br />
High <strong>School</strong>. He is also the head J.V. Wrestling<br />
Coach. Branden and his wife, Anne, live in<br />
<strong>Crown</strong> <strong>Point</strong>.
