The Galactic coordinates are similar to the equatorial coordinates in that they are provided in the<br />

Extragalactic Atlas for context. The fundamental plane of the system is defined by the Milky Way’s disk,<br />

acting as the Galactic equator in our sky. The Galactic poles point directly out of the plane of the Galaxy.<br />
