programin the country. Dr. Maberly came<br />
up with his recent findings on the<br />
community, that a child born to an iodine<br />
deficient mother may lose as much as<br />
13 IQ points. The economic and social<br />
consequences were so incredible that we<br />
devised a way to calculate these in terms<br />
,.'<strong>of</strong> actual numbers. We came up with<br />
the fact that Philippines was losing<br />

something like seven and a half million<br />
IQ points every year. If you' put these<br />
in economic terms 'the harm .is really<br />
enormous, . let alone the social costs.<br />
I am pleased that all <strong>of</strong> you could<br />
