To
Help You To the Leaders/Teachers
Thank you for your willingness to do this work for God. It is a very
responsible work to lead our children to know God as a personal
Friend. May He richly bless your influence on all those who sit in
your class.
• The age for Kindy children is 4-6 years.
• Study the program carefully. Prepare all the teaching aids.
• All text in italics is for the teacher to say.
• Be sure to learn the songs for each week.
• Prepare an offering chart and offering container.
• Make a list of the children’s birthdays. Use a birthday device &
cards.
• Decorate your room – make it interesting and attractive.
• Practice telling the lesson story till you can do it well.
• Ask other adults to TELL the mission story. Keep it short.
• Keep the program moving. Do the readiness activity and then
move straight into Prayer and Praise. Only sing a few songs.
• Debriefing is the new word for what we used to call Thinking
Time. Use questions to find out what the children have
learned and what they should do about it.
• Build up sets of things the children will use often, for example
Tool set hammer, saw, axe, brushes, etc
Helping set: broom, rake, scrubbing brush, tea towel, etc.
Animal set large toys you can use as decorations or for songs.
These can be cut from carton box bought at second-hand
shops.
• REMEMBER - Pray lots, be prepared, be early on Sabbath
morning, love the children and you will all have a great time
learning about God together.
Lesson 1
In the Beginning
GRACE
6…Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1
Grace is God’s love for us
References
Genesis 1; Patriarchs & Prophets, p. 44; The Bible Story, Vol. 1.
Memory Verse
“God saw all that He had made, and it was very good.” Gen 1:31.
Objectives
The children will:
Know that God created this wonderful world to show His
love for us.
Feel wanted and loved by Jesus.
Respond by telling Jesus they love Him.
The Message
God made this wonderful world because He loves me.
This is a Lesson About Grace
God’s love is shown to us through all that He has made. It is His beautiful
gift to us. The earth not only provides us with our food, clothes and shelter,
but gives us so much beauty to enjoy.
Room Decorations
Set up an outdoor scene with flowers, shrubs in pots, a pool made with a
blue tarp on the floor edged with rocks and ferns. Some toy animals and
birds will add interest. Stars may be hung from the ceiling with a sun and
moon. If you have a felt set, build up a creation scene on your flannel board.
Provide a table or basket of “touch and see” items such as shells, seeds,
bark, leaves of different shapes and colours, etc, for the children to look at
and handle.
1. READINESS ACTIVITY
Take the children outside to find things God has made – leaves, seeds,
nuts, flowers, shells, stones, insects, snail, etc. This could be done in

groups under adult leadership. Have the children show their specimens
inside.
Debriefing What was the most interesting thing we found? Did we
find anything you had never seen before? What was the biggest thing
we found? How many different colours did we find? Which one
smells the best? Who made all the things we found? God made all
these beautiful things for us to enjoy.
Our lesson today tells me something very important God made this
wonderful world because He loves me. Say that with me.
2. PRAYER AND PRAISE
Welcome Smile. Comment on any news children have mentioned. Give
a special welcome to any visitors, mentioning them by name.
morning, give them the opportunity to thank God for what He has made.
Dear Jesus, today we want to say thank you for all the things you
have given us. (Child’s name) wants to say “ thank You God for
_____“ (child names the thing he is holding). Jane wants to say “Thank
You God for ______ (Mention each child’s name in turn or choose
certain children to do it). Thank You for being with us here in Sabbath
School this morning. Amen.
Mission Use Children’s Mission or another story with mission emphasis.
Remind the children there are many boys and girls who do not know
God loves them and He made this wonderful world for them to enjoy.
3. BIBLE LESSON
Memory Verse Open the Bible to Genesis 1 where you have coloured
verse 31.
Our story today comes from this place in God’s Word, the Bible. Our
memory verse is verse 31 –“God saw all that He made, and it was very
good.” (Children repeat it.) I’ll sing it for you and then we’ll sing it together.
Song Memory Verse - Tune: London Bridge (Sing it several times)
God saw all that He had made, He had made, He had made
God saw all that He had made, and it was very good
(Say: Genesis 1, verse 31).
Experiencing the Story
Needed Nature scene on flannel board, smiley face on a stick, a balloon,
sun, clouds, grass, flowers, pictures of the stars and moon.
Our lesson today is about how God made our world and everything
in it. God saw that the things He made were good. Every time I
hold up my smiley face, I want you to say, “God saw that it was very
good.” (Practice it several times).
Go to your flannel board and as you talk take off the pictures one by one
till it is empty.
Before God started making the world there was nothing here. No
plants or animals, no grass or birds, no sun or moon or stars. It was
very dark. Close your eyes and feel how dark it is.
Then God spoke and He said, Let there be light.” Open your eyes and
see the light. That was the first thing God created. But God knew we
also needed dark time for sleeping so He created day and night and
that was the end of the first day of creation. Hold up smiley face and
have the children repeat, God saw that it was very good.
Song Tune: God is so Good LVPH 88
God made the night, God made the day
God made them both on day number 1
On day number 2 God created the air we need to breathe. Can we
see the air? How do we know it is there? We feel it in our lungs when
we breathe (Children hold their breath for as long as they can). We also
see the space air takes up inside a balloon (Blow up a balloon and then
let the air out). God also created the clouds that float in the air in the
sky. And at the end of the day (Hold up your smiley face). God saw
that it was very good.
Song Tune: God is so Good LVPH 88
God made the air, God made the clouds
8…Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1

God made them both on day number 2
On day number 3 God said “Let the water be gathered into one place
and let dry land appear.”
And now, instead of just water, the earth had dry brown
ground. (Begin to build up the picture on the flannel board). And then
the ground was green with grass and trees and flowers. There was
lots of colour too- red and yellow and orange, blue and purple flowers.
There were lots of yummy foods to eat as well. What do you think
God saw when He looked around? (Hold up the smiley face) God saw
that it was very good.
Song Tune: God is so Good LVPH 88
God made dry land, God made green grass
God made the flowers on day number 3
What do we see up in the sky during the day? Yes, the sun. And what
do we see in the sky at night? The moon and stars. (Add them to the
flannel picture). Now, let’s do this finger play together.
Finger Play
God made the big, round, shining sun - Arms circle overhead
And put it in the sky - Hands pointing upwards
God made the moon - Make a circle
And twinkling stars - Open and close hands
And put them right up high - On tip toes, pushing
hands up.
Yes, on day number 4 God made the sun to shine in the daytime and
the moon to shine with the stars at night. What do you think God
thought of the sun, moon and stars? (Hold up smiley face.) God saw
that it was very good.
Song Tune: God is so Good LVPH 88
God made the sun, God made the moon
God made the stars on day number 4
Now the earth was very beautiful – but (softly) it was very quiet and
very still. But that was about to change! On the fifth day God said,
“Let the waters be filled with living creatures, and let birds fly in the
sky. Let’s pretend we are flying birds.
Song When We All Pull Together
When we all fly together, together, together
When we all fly together How happy we are
When we all swim together…
(Show smiley face and say together) God saw that it was very good.
Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1…9

Song Tune: God is so Good LVPH 88
God made the birds, God made the fish
God made them all on day number 5
On the next day, day number six, (Count on fingers together), God
created all the animals (Show stuffed animals or pictures of animals.
Have the children name them and say what sound they make).
What did God see when He looked at the animals He had
created? (Hold up smiley face and say together) God saw that it was
very good.
Debriefing How do you think God felt when He saw the things He
had made? Would you have like to be there to see everything being
created? Why did God create all the things in our world?
Repeat after me: God made this wonderful world because He
loves me.
God did not only give us the things we NEED. He gave us lots of
interesting things just for fun and to make us happy.
Let us say this again: God made this wonderful world because He
loves me.
Song Memory Verse - Tune: London Bridge
God saw all that He had made, He had made, He had made
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good
(Genesis 1 verse 31).
4. APPLYING THE LESSON
Needed flannel board cutouts of things in nature Give out flannel
pictures to children.
Some people think that all the wonderful things God created just
made themselves. (Hold up Bible) The Bible tells me the truth. The
Bible tells us God created our world and everything in it. He made our
wonderful world because… (Help children say it with you) He loves
me!
Debriefing As the children come up one by one to put their picture on
the flannel board ask them: “Who created the ……?”
At the end have them all say together, God created this wonderful
world because He loves me.
5. SHARING THE LESSON
Needed paper, crayons or pencils. Give each child a sheet of paper
divided into 6 sections. Have them draw something God created on
each day. Do not worry if they get them mixed up.
10…Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1

Debriefing View each child’s pictures. Suggest they take them home
and tell someone the story of how God made the earth and all the
wonderful things around us.
God made this wonderful world because He loves me.
Closing
Song Memory Verse - Tune: London Bridge
God saw all that He had made, He had made, He had made
smell the animal/bird. Explain how to take care of the pet and what it
needs to stay healthy.
Debriefing Who has an animal at their house? Is it a pet? Is it your
friend? On day number 6 God made animals to be our friends. God
made something else on that day. Can you tell me who they were?
3. BIBLE LESSON
Memory Verse Use your Bible with a marker at Genesis 1 and the
memory verse coloured.
Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1…13

Now we are going to find the place in the Bible where we have our
story for today.
(Have a child open the pages at the marker.) See here it is right near
the beginning of the Bible in Genesis 1 and 2. (Read Gen 1:1 aloud.)
Have another child point to the memory verse, then read it aloud.
God - point to the sky
Said - put hands up to mouth
Let us make man - hold hands out, palms up
In our image - hands start at head and move down the body
Repeat this several times.
Song- In the Beginning Tune: Do Lord
Experiencing the Story
Needed 2 children to play Adam and Eve.
God looked at the beautiful world He had made. He was happy
because it was perfect. There was lots of fresh air to breathe (Take a
deep breath and invite the children to do it too). The warm sun shone
down on the earth (Raise your arms above your head in a circle. Invite
the children to copy your actions). When night-time came, millions and
millions of twinkling stars filled the sky (Open and shut fists above you
head). The earth was filled with soft green grass and tall trees (Wave
hands at your feet, then high above). Fish swam in the seas and
rivers (Hands together, thumbs up. Wiggle like fish swimming).
Beautiful birds flew over head (Flap arms like a bird) Kangaroos and
rabbits hopped (Hop) kittens meowed (Meow) woolly sheep baaed,
(Baa, baa) roosters crowed (Cock-a-doodle-doo), and horses
galloped (Pat your hands on your legs like a horse galloping).
When God finished creating all the animals, He said to each pair of them,
“Now go and have many babies. Fill up the beautiful world I have made.”
God’s world was perfect, but it wasn’t quite finished. There was one
more thing God planned to make. Can you guess? It’s our memory
verse: “God said, Let us make man in our image.” So God bent down
and made the shape of a man in the dust of the ground. (Ask your
Adam to come and lie very still on the floor with his eyes closed) But the
man did not move. He lay very still. Just like that chalk outline we made
on the floor, the man on the ground was not alive.
Then God knelt down beside the man and did something very special.
He breathed life into the man’s nose. That is something only God
can do. No matter how much you or I breathe into a doll or a model
we make out of sand or clay, we will never be able to make it live and
14…Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1

eathe. But God breathed life into the man He made. (Ask the child
to open his eyes.) The man stretched (Do it). The man yawned. He
sat up (Have the child do it). And the very first thing the man saw was
God. God named the man Adam.
And then God said, “I do not want Adam to be lonely. I will make a
woman to be his wife. He told Adam to lie down again. (Have Adam
lie down and pretend to be asleep).
He made Adam to fall into a very deep sleep. And while he was
sleeping God took one of Adam’s rib bones from his side and made
a woman He named Eve. (Choose a girl to be Eve) When Adam woke
up from his sleep, he saw this most beautiful woman standing beside
him. God introduced them to each other. (Act it) Adam and Eve were
the first family in the new world God had made.
God blessed them and said, “Have many children. Fill up the beautiful
world I have created for you. Enjoy all the food I have prepared for
you. Care for all the animals I have made. I love you and I want you to
love me too. I want us to be friends forever.”
Debriefing How do you think Adam and Eve felt when they saw
God for the first time? How did they feel when they first saw the tall
giraffes and the very big elephants? They were not scared because
they knew God made the animals to be their friends. Did God create
animals or people first? Why did God make people? He wanted them
to be His friends. Who would like to be God’s friend?
Remember: God made people to be His friends. Say that with me.
4. APPLYING THE LESSON
Needed an empty picture frame or pieces of stick joined to make a
frame.
During our prayer time I showed you a photo of my friend. Now
we are going to make live pictures of Jesus’ best friends. (Hold up
the empty picture frame and ask a child to come to the front and look
through it. As they do this ask) Who is Jesus’ friend? (Then ask the
child in the frame to name someone else in the class who will then come
to the front to look through the frame.)
Debriefing Who is your best friend? Can you think of things that
friends do together? How can we be friends with Jesus?
Remember: God made people to be His friends. Let’s say it
together.
5. SHARING THE LESSON
Needed a folded paper cut-out of a person for each child. Have the
children draw eyes and mouth on their cut out. Write their name on the
back.
Debriefing Why did God make people? Can you share your cutout
with someone who needs to know that Jesus wants to be their friend?
Tell me who you will give it to. (Help the children to actually name
someone).
1. READINESS ACTIVITY
A Special Day
GRACE
Grace is God’s love for us
Prepare 7 small parcels wrapped as presents. Six of them will contain
something God has made. The 7 th will contain a small church or picture
of one. Talk about presents and how exciting it is to get one and also
how exciting it is to prepare one and wrap it up to give it away. Have the
children open the presents. Line them up for all to enjoy. Explain that
the Sabbath is the birthday of the world. It is a gift God gives us each
week. It comes wrapped in the colours of the sunset.
Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1…17

Debriefing Who likes to get a present? Which present from God do
you think is the best? Why? Why is Sabbath a special present? What
makes Sabbath special to you? What kind of things do you like to do
on Sabbath? Why did God give us a special day?
God made the Sabbath for us because He loves us. Say it with me.
This is where today’s story is found in the Bible (Choose a child to
point to verse 3). This is our memory verse for this week (Read it, then
teach it to the children using these actions:
God - point to the sky
Act the story as you tell it. Eve woke up and looked around. The
warm sun was just peeking over the edge of the world. (Point to a
spot in front of you) Let’s imagine what happened that day. Eve turned
around and looked behind her. Last night, her first night, the sun had
gone down back there. (Point to a spot behind you) I must remember
to ask God where the sun goes at night, she thought.
Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1…19

Then she remembered. God had said today would be a special day.
Eve looked over at Adam where he was still sleeping. She touched his
shoulder gently.
“Adam.” she said. “Wake up! Today is a special day. God said He
wanted to spend the whole day with us.”
Adam sat up and stretched his arms. Oh, what a lovely day! It would
be their first whole day on earth. There would be so much to see and
do and explore!
Just then they heard a voice calling them – “Adam! Eve! It was God!
He had come to the garden to see them. God said. This is a special
day. I am naming it the Sabbath. (Pause) I want to spend this entire
day with you. I’ve made this beautiful home for you and I want to
show it to you. Are you ready ?
‘We’re ready!’ said Adam.“This is going to be a happy day” said Eve
as she clapped her hands.
God walked over to a tree and picked a big red and yellow fruit and
offered it to Eve. “These are delicious”, He smiled. “Especially for
breakfast on Sabbath” (Pause) He showed Adam and Eve how to
peel back the skin and eat the mango. Soon sweet juice was dripping
from their fingers.
What a grand adventure they had the rest of that first Sabbath. (Pause)
God showed them everything in their garden home. They stood at
the bottom of a crashing waterfall. They watched ducks swimming in
a lovely clear pool. They tasted all kinds of delicious fruit. (Have the
children name some favourite fruits). Beautiful birds landed on their
fingers and shoulders and heads and sang sweet songs. They petted
the lions and went for a ride on an elephant and played with the
monkeys.
And as the sun dropped low in the sky, they sat on a low hill with God
and watched the orange and pink and purple of the sunset. God spoke.
“Have you enjoyed this Sabbath? (Pause) This is a special day for Me.
My work of creating the world is finished. I wanted this day to be one
that we could spend together. The Sabbath (Pause) will come every
seventh day. The rest of the days you will care for the garden and the
animals. I will spend time with you on those days too. But every seventh
day will be Sabbath. (Pause). It will be a holy day and our special day to
be together. We will have the whole day to enjoy each other.”
“This has been a wonderful day,” said Adam as the sun set.
They sat quietly for a moment then Eve spoke. “Thank you God.
Thank you for this special day. Thank You for the Sabbath. (Pause)
Song Sabbath is a Happy Day LVPH 235
Debriefing How do you think Adam and Eve felt about spending the
day with God? We can’t see Him, but can we spend every Sabbath
day with God? Is He here with us this morning?
Do you think God was tired after creating the world? Why did He
rest? Do you think God created the Sabbath for Himself or for
people? Why?
4. APPLYING THE LESSON
Needed a blanket or large towel placed on the floor at the front of the
room.
When Mama makes soup at home, she puts lots of vegetables in it.
Today we are going to make Sabbath soup. Instead of using a pot,
we will use this blanket. And each of you can be a vegetable in the
soup. Think of something you can do on Sabbath to remind you of
Jesus. (As the children tell their ideas, they can sit on the blanket. When
they are all in the “pot” the soup is finished.)
Hiding From God
GRACE Grace is God’s love for us
Have a pile of big leaves and pieces of broomstick. Let the children try
to join the leaves together using pieces of broom as pins. The idea is
to make a sort of tunic like Eve made to wear, or use an old singlet and
fasten leaves to it with pins or sticky tape. Let the children do the work.
Debriefing Would you like to have a coat like this? Do you think
it would be warm on a cold day? What would happen if you wore
it while you were playing? Could you use this coat to hide from
someone? Could you hide from God while you were wearing it? Can
anyone really hide from God? Oh, no, God can see us wherever we
are. How does He feel when He sees us doing something wrong? It
makes Him sad, because He loves us.
3. BIBLE LESSON
Memory Verse Use a Bible with markers in it at Genesis 3 and at Psalm
100:5. Colour the verse so it is easy for a child to identify. Ask one child
Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1…23

to find the story and another to find the memory verse. Read it aloud.
Then divide the class into two groups.
Group One The Lord is good - wave hands above their heads.
Group Two And His love endures forever - fold arms as if hugging
themselves.
Both Groups Psalm 100 verse 3 - clap hands (repeat several times
then switch groups and repeat again).
Experiencing the Story Learn the story well so you can act it out. You
will need a tree with fruit fastened to it, and a snake. Also use the leaf
clothes made as a readiness activity.
Use these story points:
Adam and Eve loved their garden home.
God asked them to keep away from one special tree and not to eat
its fruit.
He also asked Adam and Eve to stay together.
One day Eve went walking by herself.
A voice spoke to her from the special tree.
It was Satan pretending to be a beautiful snake with wings.
He told lies and tricked Eve into eating some of the fruit.
Eve picked some more fruit and ran to Adam.
He also disobeyed God and ate some of the fruit.
They both felt really bad and tried to hide from God.
They got some leaves and made some clothes and hid in the bush.
God came to see them. He called ‘Adam!” “Eve! Where are you?”
Finally they came slowly out with their heads hanging down.
God knew what they had done. God sees everything we do.
Adam blamed Eve. Eve blamed the snake.
Blaming someone else didn’t change the fact they had chosen to
disobey. God was very sad. But He still loved them very much.
Adam and Eve had to leave their beautiful garden home.
God had to kill two little lambs to make warm coats for them.
This was the first time anything died. It was a sad, sad day.
God said, “I love you. I forgive you. One day my Son will die to rescue
you and you can come back home.” God loves us, too. Even
when we do something wrong.
Debriefing How would you feel if a snake talked to you? What do
you think Eve should have done when the snake talked to her? How
do you think Adam felt when Eve told him what she had done? What
would you have done if you were Adam and Eve and you heard God
calling? Have you ever run and hid when you disobeyed Mama? How
do you think God felt about Adam and Eve when they disobeyed Him?
Remember: God loves us all the time, even when we do wrong.
Song Jesus Loves Me LVPH 102
4. APPLYING THE LESSON
Song “I’m Sorry” (Music supplied)
I did something to Mary, It made her feel so bad.
I said “Mary, I’m sorry” –and now we both feel glad
I did something to Mama, It made her feel so bad
I said “Mama, I’m sorry,” – and now we both feel glad.
I did something to Papa, It made him feel so bad
I said “Papa, I’m sorry” - and now we both feel glad.
(Have different children act the verses, giving a hug and smiling at
the end).
Debriefing When you do something naughty, how do you feel? How
do you think God feels? Does God stop loving you when you are
naughty? How do you feel when you say “sorry”? What does God
do when we say sorry? He forgives us.
Remember: God loves us all the time, even when we do wrong.
5. SHARING THE LESSON
Show the leaf cover the children made. Ask questions like these: Who
sewed a leaf coat in our story today? Why? Did God stop loving
them when they disobeyed Him? When does God love us? God
loves us all the time, even when we do wrong. Say that one more
time. This is really good news. Hands up those who can say it by
themselves. (Let them say it) When we leave Sabbath School see if
you can go and say it to someone before you go into church.
Closing
Song Jesus Loves Me LVPH 102
Closing Prayer Have the children repeat after you.
Dear Jesus, thank You for loving us even when we disobey. Please
help us tell someone this good news. Thank you for our teachers and
Lesson 5
References
Genesis 6:5-18; My Bible Friends; The Bible Story, Vol 1.
Memory Verse
“We will obey the voice of the Lord.” Jeremiah 42:6.
Objectives
The children will:
Know that we worship God when we follow His
instructions.
Feel good that God gives us instructions because He loves
us.
Respond by obeying God’s instructions every day.
The Message
We worship God when we obey Him.
This is a Lesson About Worship
The Bible is God’s book of instructions about how He wants us to live. We
worship God when we listen to Him and do what He wants us to do.
Room Decorations
You will need some sort of ark (you could use several carton boxes joined
together, or even a blanket over a frame), as many soft toy animals as you
can find, some hammers, saws and axes made from carton box or wood,
some nails and paint brushes.
1. READINESS ACTIVITY
Noah Builds a Boat
WORSHIP We praise God for His loving care
Needed Basins of water, things that sink and float: cork, bark, leaf,
pumice, rock, nail, spoon, plastic spoon, a ball of crumpled foil, a flat
piece of foil shaped like a boat, some small coins, nuts, seeds, shells.
Have the children take turns to drop items into the water to see if they
float. Crumpled foil will sink, but if it is made into the shape of a boat it
will float. Have the children see how many coins or pebbles they can
26…Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1

carefully drop into the small boat before it sinks.
Debriefing Was it easy to tell which things would float and which
would sink? Would you know how to build a real boat? How about
a big ship? God knows how. He told Noah, and Noah listened very
carefully to God’s instructions. He did just what God told him to do,
so God helped Noah build a boat that did not sink. It was a very big
boat.
This is what He wants us to remember: We worship God when we
obey Him. Say that with me.
2. PRAYER AND PRAISE
3. BIBLE LESSON
Memory Verse Use a marker in your Bible for children to locate the
story and memory verse (Genesis 6:22) which you have coloured. Draw
an outline of the ark on a sheet of paper. Cut it into a jigsaw of 8 pieces.
Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1…27

Write a word of the memory verse on each piece.
Find the verse in the Bible. Read it aloud. Have the children repeat it.
Give out the puzzle pieces and ask the children to put them together.
Repeat till all the children have had a turn.
Noah did everything just as God commanded. He also gave thanks to
God for taking care of him and his family. God takes care of us, too.
We thank God for watching over us all the time.
We worship God when we obey him. Say that with me.
Experiencing the Story
Needed axes, hammers, saws, nails, tape measure, paint brushes.
The story in My Bible Friends is very good and the pictures are lovely.
Use the first few pages that tell this week’s part of the story.
You will need to tell the story with lots of actions that the children can join
in.
Pretending to draw the plans for the boat, chopping the trees, sawing
the boards, measuring the size, hammering the nails, painting the sides.
To get an idea of the length, explain that the ark was about as long as 6
churches joining each other. Line up all the class in one line. Have them
stand finger tip to finger tip. The ark was even longer than that.
Have the children stand on tip toe with their hands up. Would that be
high enough? No, the ark was 3 storeys tall – a downstairs, upstairs and
then another upstairs.
It was a big job and it took a very long time. Noah had 120 birthdays
while he was building the ark.
God was with them and watched over them and protected them.
Noah was doing just what God told him to do. And we want to obey
God too.
Remember: We worship God when we obey Him. Say it with me.
Song God was Watching (Music supplied)
God was watching over Noah
As he built the ark each day
And He’s watching over me
When I work and when I play.
Debriefing How do you think Noah felt when God talked to him?
What was the name of the boat Noah built? What were some of the
jobs people had to do to build the ark? How tall was the boat? What
did God say was going to happen to the whole world?
28…Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1

How did Noah and his family feel when God told them they would be
safe from the flood? (glad, happy, said thank You).
Saying thank-you and praising Him are ways to worship God. How
did Noah follow God’s directions.
Remember: We worship God when we obey Him. Say that with me.
4. APPLYING THE LESSON
Needed Bible and items in a bag: fruit, bottle of water, eye glasses,
picture of Mother or Father, Bible, money in a purse.
God gave Noah some instructions. God gave us some instructions,
too, in the Bible. I have some things in this bag and I will choose
children who are sitting still to take them out. Each item represents
one of God’s instructions:
Piece of fruit eat food that is good for you
Bottle of water drink what is good for you
Eye glasses be careful what you watch on TV
Mother & Father obey your parents
Bible learn about God
Money in purse give offerings and tithe to help others.
See if the children can guess what rule each item represents before you
explain it to them. Remind them that each rule is to protect us and help
us to be happy.
Debriefing Why does God want us to study our Bibles? Why does
God ask us to obey our parents? Why does God want us to be careful
about what we eat? Why does God want us to be kind and share with
others? How are all these instructions alike? They are all meant to
protect us and make us happy.
Remember: We worship God when we obey Him.
5. SHARING THE LESSON
Needed memory verse word puzzle.
Repeat the memory verse. Have the children put the word puzzle
together again. Remind the children that when we follow God’s
instructions, we are worshipping Him.
Do you like to hear a Bible story? There is someone you know (Maybe
it is someone in the village who is sick) who would love you to tell them
the story of Noah. Tell about him following God’s directions to build
the ark. How many of you think you could do that? Who are you
going to tell? Why does God want us to tell the story? It is a way to
praise God for watching over us all the time.
3. BIBLE LESSON
Memory Verse Put markers in your Bible at Genesis 6:19 and Psalm
52:9. Have a child open to Gen 6. You point to verse 19.
Today’s Bible story begins right here. A second child opens the Bible
to the memory verse which you have coloured. Read it aloud. Clap the
verse to a rhythm. I will praise you for-ev-er for what you have done.
Psalm fifty two, verse nine.
Get the children to clap it with you. Repeat it till they know it. Divide the
class into two groups
Group one - I will praise you forever - say and clap
32…Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1

Group two - for what you have done - say and clap
Both groups - Psalm 25 verse 9
Then switch groups.
Experiencing the Story
Needed baskets and /or bags of something to represent food for Noah’s
family and the animals, A door big enough for the children to walk
through (it may be two adults standing apart with their hands joined
overhead).
You could also have children dressed to represent Noah, his wife and the
family. The rest will become animals.
Noah and his boys, Shem, Ham and Japheth (Children repeat the
names) had been busy building the ark for a l-o-n-g time. Now it was
finished! Noah was pleased. He knew he had followed all of God’s
plans and the ark was built just right.
Can you guess what the next job was? Why, they had to load up
all the food Noah and his family and the animals would need to eat.
Would you like to help? (Give the food baskets to the children and have
them carry them through the “door” into the ark.) Now everything was
ready. But there was just one more thing Noah wanted to do.
The whole time he had been building the ark, Noah had been warning
the people that the flood was coming. (Have Noah stand up and wave
his arms as though he is speaking). Some of the people did not even
stop to listen. Some people laughed at him and said he was crazy.
Some people were rude and called him bad names. You see it had
never rained before. The earth was watered by dew that came up
from the ground at night. No one had ever seen water fall from the
sky. They did not know what a flood was. (Do you know what a flood
is?)
All those unkind people didn’t love or worship God. They didn’t
believe Him. So when Noah said God told him there would be a flood
and the only safe place would be inside the ark, they just laughed.
But Noah wanted to give the people one more chance. He said,
“Please come into the ark. It is going to rain and you will die if you are
left outside.” But the crowd of people standing there just laughed and
shook their heads.
Suddenly someone shouted and pointed. “Look at the lions! And
there was a pair of lions walking out of the forest towards the
ark. (Have your helper send pairs of children through the door of the
“ark” walking on all fours and making the noise of the animal they
represent.) Look, here come the rabbits hopping along. And the
Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1…33

sheep - and the kangaroos! And the great big elephants are coming,
too. There’s lots and lots of animals. And look at all the birds flying!
All the people watched the strange parade. Animals were walking and
hopping and creeping and flying into the ark. It looked as though no
one was leading them. How did they know how to come and where
to go? The people could not see the angel God sent to guide the
animals. Noah, Shem, Ham and Japheth guided the animals into their
places in the ark. (Arrange the children in some order in the ark).
After the last animals were safe in the ark, Noah and his wife, and his
sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth and their wives went into the ark (If
you have chosen children to represent them, have them walk through the
“door” carrying small suitcases). Noah stood at the door and called,
“Come into the ark and be saved.” But no one came. S-l-o-w-l-y, s-lo-w-l-y
the big door closed. God had sent His angel to close the door
and no one could open it. God would take care of them. They would
be safe.
Debriefing How would you have felt if you saw Noah building this
very big boat? Would you have chosen to go into the ark or to stay?
How do you think Noah felt when he saw all the animals coming to the
ark? How did all the people feel when they saw the animals coming?
Who shut the door of the ark? What would have been the most fun
thing to do on Noah’s boat? Who was taking care of everyone in the
ark? Who takes care of us? So what should we do?
We thank God for taking care of us. Say it with me.
4. APPLYING THE LESSON
Needed A bag in which you have hidden pictures of parents, teacher,
food, clothes, house, church, angels.
God used Noah and his family to take care of the animals. What do
you think God uses to take care of us today? (Invite different children
to come forward and take something out of the bag. Discuss how each
picture shows some way God takes care of us.) Let us thank God for
taking care of us.
3. BIBLE LESSON
Memory Verse
Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1…37

Needed Marked Bible; musical instruments.
Use your Bible with markers to help children find Genesis 7 and Psalm
48:1. Colour the memory verse. When a child has opened the Bible to
Gen 7. Say This is where this week’s Bible story is found. Turn to Ps
48:1 and say:
This is our memory verse. Great is the Lord and most worthy of
praise.
Divide the group in two. Give out some kind of instruments (shakers,
sticks, etc). While one group plays, the other group will say “Great is
the Lord”. Then they will switch and the other group will say ”and most
worthy of praise.” Repeat till all the children know it well.
Song My God Is So Great LVPH 112
Experiencing the Story
Needed An ark window that opens and shuts. (It may be made from a
carton box); a calendar, a black raven, a white or grey dove, (these can
be made from cloth folded into the basic shape), little bits of food in a
bowl, a twig with a green leaf.
As you tell the story, have the children join you in doing the actions.
God’s angel slowly, slowly, shut the door of the ark (squ-e-e-e-e-k!
Bang! (One loud clap) All the animals and Noah & Mrs Noah, and
Shem & Mrs Shem, and Ham & Mrs Ham, and Japheth and Mrs
Japheth (count them on fingers) were safe inside. Just 8 people
believed God. They sat and waited all day and all night, but nothing
happened. They could hear the people laughing outside and calling
them crazy. Nothing happened the next day either, nor the next.
But God had promised that a flood was coming, so Noah and his
family were very patient. Finally after I, 2, 3, (Have the children count
with you) seven days, the rain began to fall. (Act it together) It rained
and rained really heavy, and the thunder rolled and the lightning
flashed all day and all night for days and days and days. The people
outside banged on the door and shouted to Noah, “Let us in. Please
let us in.” but it was too late. The angel had shut the door and no one
could open it.
First the rain covered the flat land, then the trees, then the mountains.
Finally it covered the whole earth. It rained for 40 days. (Count 40
days on a calendar, or have 4 children hold up their fingers as you count
them).
Noah and his family thanked God for taking care of them. They had
worship every morning and evening and sang praise to God for taking
care of them.
38…Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1

Song Jesus Sends the Angels LVPH 48
The ark was very crowded, and it was hard to move around, even to
eat. (Share out the small bits of food) The boat swayed as the wind
and the water pushed it. (Have the children sway side to side, and
backwards and forwards). It was very scary and uncomfortable for
everyone, including the animals.
Finally the rain stopped and everything was quiet. (Whisper) And the
ark rocked gently on the water for a long, long time. Noah and his
family were busy caring for the animals and feeding them. The sun
was shining down and slowly, slowly the water began to dry up. One
day the ark went Bump! as it rested on the top of a mountain. Noah
and his family peeked out of the window. (Use it) There was still a sea
of water all around them.
They waited and waited and waited. The hot sun was still busy
drying up the water. One day Noah took a raven and let it go out the
window. (Hand raven through the window to a helper). But the raven
couldn’t find a place to land, so it flew back into the ark. After 7
days (Use the calendar or count on fingers) Noah sent out a dove, (Do
it) but it couldn’t find a place to land either. After 7 days (Count again)
Noah sent out the dove again. (Act it. Have your helper put a twig and
leaf in the dove’s mouth). This time the dove came back with a leaf in
its mouth. Everyone was so excited. (Clap hands and smile). Soon
they would all be able to get out and move around. After 7 more
days (Count them) Noah let the dove out again. This time it did not
come back. “Hooray!” shouted Noah and his family. “Soon we will be
leaving the ark. Our long trip is almost over!”
God kept His promise and kept the ark and everything in it safe
through the big Flood. God promises to keep us safe, too. God
keeps His promises. What should we do?
We thank God for keeping His promises. Say it with me.
Song God Was Watching (Music supplied)
Debriefing Who shut the door of the ark? How do you think it felt
to be shut in with all the animals? Would it have been nice in the ark,
or would it be smelly? Who do you think made the boat toss about
so that it nearly sank? Who kept the ark safe? How would you have
just because you don’t get something straight away doesn’t mean
you will never get it, does it? Who has given us promises we can
5. SHARING THE LESSON
Do you remember that God uses people to take care of us? Can you
tell me who God uses to take care of you? (Have children name them).
What should you say to someone who cares for you? God likes it
when we say thank you to Him, and people like it, too. Who could you
say “thank you” to when you leave Sabbath School today? (Teacher,
mission story teller, helpers, Mama, Papa, Pastor, etc.) How do you
think they will feel when you say thank you? How will you feel? How
many of you can think of someone to say thank you to? (Ask each one
Genesis 9 : 13 (repeat last line of music)
Experiencing the Story
Needed Calendar, glass jar with lid, dirt, water, stones to make an altar,
rainbow.
If possible, read the story in My Bible Friends to help you tell the story
effectively. Begin the story time with all the children sitting in the “ark.”
Noah and his family and all the animals had been living in the ark for
a whole year! (Turn the pages of a calendar to show a year). It had
been seven months since the ark rested on the mountain (Count on
the calendar or fingers). It had been almost 3 months since the dove
had flown out the window and had not returned. Do you think Noah
expected he would get out soon? Yes, I think so, too. But now three
months (Show on calendar or fingers) had gone by and they were still
sitting in the ark where there wasn’t much room and it was getting
awfully smelly. They were all beginning to wonder if the big door
would ever open up for them.
The animals were restless, too. The cows bellowed (Moo-oo). Can
you make that noise? The donkeys brayed. (Hee-haw) The lions
and tigers roared (Gr-r-r-r-r-r-!) The dogs barked (Woof, woof). The
monkeys scampered and chattered (Ooh-ooh and ee-ee). Everyone
was tired of being shut in the ark.
One day God said, “OK. The ground is dry and there is plenty of
grass for the animals to eat. Come out of the ark all of you and the
animals, too.” Slowly the big door began to open, creeek! creeeek!
as God’s angel pulled it. Out rushed all the animals. They were so
happy they danced and pranced about and rolled in the soft green
grass. (The children act out the animals leaving the ark and making
animal noises). Soon they were eating the green grass. It tasted so
good after the dry hay they had been eating in the ark.
Noah and his family were excited, too. They took big breaths of the
good fresh air. They were so happy to come out of the ark and to
begin their new lives. But as they looked around, they were sad, too.
The earth was so ugly now. It looked just like a big bulldozer had
been pushing everything around. There were big rocks sticking out of
the grass, and broken and twisted trees were lying all over the place.
Some flowers had begun to bloom, but the beautiful gardens had
disappeared. It was not at all like the beautiful place they had lived
in before the flood. Every thing had been shaken up and covered by
water.
Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1…43

Noah gathered some of the big rocks lying around and built an altar.
Can you help me build an altar right here with these stones? Thank
you for being good helpers. Noah and his family gathered around
the altar and worshipped God. Do you think they sang songs? Do
you think they prayed thank You prayers? Oh, yes, they thanked
God for taking care of them. They thanked God for His promise to
protect them. They thanked God for saving them from the terrible
flood. (Have the children kneel while you pray a short prayer thanking
God for His care and protection).
God was happy to hear their prayers. He told Noah “I will never send
another flood to cover the whole earth. Look in the sky and you will
see the sign of My promise.”
They stood up and looked up. There was a beautiful rainbow of many
colours stretching across the sky. (Point to the rainbow you have over
the “ark”) It was the most beautiful thing Noah’s family had ever seen.
It looked like all the colours in the world were shining in that rainbow.
They all said together, “Its bea-u-ti-ful! Thank you, God.”
And God reminds us too, that whenever there is a rainbow in the sky
He is remembering His promise to Noah and to us.
Song Who Made the Beautiful Rainbow? LVPH 60
Debriefing How did Noah and his family and the animals feel when
they left the ark? What is the first thing you would have done if you
had been in the ark? Why did Noah build an altar so soon? What
promise did God make to Noah? How did the family feel when they
saw the first rainbow? Why were they thankful? It was because God
kept His promise.
Remember: We thank God for His promises. Say it with me.
4. APPLYING THE LESSON
Needed a thin stick; a bundle of sticks tied together.
This thin stick is like our promises. Sometimes we keep them and
sometimes we break them. (Ask a child to see if he can break the
stick). Now this bundle of sticks is like God’s promises. They cannot
be broken. (Allow several children to try). God is not like us. He never
breaks His promises. He is our wonderful God. We thank God for his
promises.
5. SHARING THE LESSON
Our Sabbath School is almost finished. You will have to wait till next
Sabbath before we meet again. Just because we have to wait a whole
week, does that mean we won’t have Sabbath School again? Oh, no!
44…Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1

Sometimes we have to wait for promises to happen. Sometimes God
says to wait, but sooner or later, God always keeps His promises. See
if you can be a promise keeper this week. Ask Jesus to help you.
Closing
Sing the memory verse
Closing Prayer Thank you God for being here with us today. We
know You always keep your promises. Please help us to be patient
when it seems you are a taking a long time to keep your promise to
come back again.
46…Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1

When you go on a trip to a new place, do you know the way? Do your
parents know where you are going? Do they ever use a map? How
would you feel if you were asked to go somewhere but you didn’t
know where and you didn’t know how you would get back? That is
just what happened in our lesson story this week. God told Abram to
take his family and leave his town. God said He would show Abram
where to go. Abram knew God keeps His promises. Abram was
So Abram left as the Lord told him
So Abram left as the Lord told him
Genesis 12 verse 4.
Experiencing the Story
Needed 3 people - an adult dressed as ‘Abram’ to lead the children on
a trip to the promised land; an adult male who will hide and be the voice
of God; a narrator). If your room is too full, you may like to have ‘Abram’
lead the children outside and back again.
Male voice Abram!
Abram Yes? (Looks around and scratches his head wondering who is
calling him)
Male voice Abram! I am the Lord who made the heavens and the
earth.
Abram (falling to his knees) Here I am, Lord.
Male voice I want you to leave this city called Ur. Take your family
and your servants and go to another land that I will show you.
Abram To another place, Lord? To another land?
Male voice I will bless you, Abram. I will protect you. I will make
your family into a great nation. And through your family the whole
earth will be blessed.
Abram Thank you, Lord. I will do what you want me to do.
Narrator Abram trusted God and wanted to obey Him. So he packed
up all his belongings. He sent his servants to round up all his animals.
They all got ready to leave. He told his wife. He told his family and his
friends. Everyone was surprised.
Abram (to the children in the class) Today you will be my family and
servants. God has told me to pack up and leave Ur. He wants me to
go to a new land that He will show us. I don’t know where it is, but I
want to do what God has asked me. Let’s start packing. Our camels
will carry our things.
Narrator So Abram and his wife, Sarai, and his nephew, Lot, and all
their servants packed everything they owned. (Encourage the children
to pretend to pack their bags and load them onto imaginary animals).
48…Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1

Narrator It was hard for Abram and Sarai to say goodbye to their
wontoks and friends. But they knew God was calling them and they
wanted to follow Him. Soon they were ready to go.
Abram Goodbye! Goodbye everyone! (Wave to the children) Here
we go! Follow me! We will follow God together.
Narrator All the servants and sheep and goats and camels followed
Abram as he left Ur.
Abram I’m not sure where we are going, but God knows the way. He
will lead us to the place He has for us. We cannot travel very fast. It
will take us many days to get there. We will get hot and tired, but we
will take time to rest along the way. Are you feeling tired? Let’s stop
here for a while. (Lead the children back to their seats)
Song Memory verse song
Debriefing How do you think Abram felt when he heard God
speaking to him? How would you feel if God told you he wanted you
to leave your home? Abram and Sarai had to say goodbye to their
wontoks and friends. How would you feel if you had to leave your
friends? How many of Abram’s family went with him? Abram and his
family loved each other and they loved God. Christian families love
one another and follow God. Say that with me.
And He’s watching over me
When I work and when I play
4. APPLYING THE LESSON
Show a picture of Abram and his people travelling.
For Abram, following God meant packing up and moving. But
following God doesn’t always mean you have to move. Following God
just means to do what He wants you to do. What do you think God
wants you to do? (Get children’s suggestions: be obedient, be kind,
love others, eat good food, come to church, etc.)
How do you know what God wants you to do? (Pray, read the Bible,
listen to parents) How does God help your family? (Hears our prayers,
keeps us safe, helps us choose good Christian friends, makes us better
when we’re sick, helps us understand the Bible). How does it make you
feel knowing that God is leading your family?
Worship the Lord with gladness. Psalm one hundred, verse two
Experiencing the Story You will need the same adult helpers as last
week. The children can also be dressed with a tea towel fastened
around their head. This could be done as they arrive at Sabbath School.
Divide them into 3 groups - a larger group to be Abram’s followers, 2
smaller groups who will stop Abram and ask “Where are you going?”
They will then join Abram’s group. If possible, it will be best to act the
story outside.
Narrator Abram and Sarai and Lot travelled for many days. There
were many people in their group. They looked like a big parade as
they travelled. (Have Abram lead his group around toward Group A.)
Sometimes other people would watch as Abram and his family and
Narrator Some of the people who listened to Abram decided to
worship God and go with Abram to the new country. (Group A join
children sit while Abram pretends to be teaching them). He taught them
to worship the true God, the God in heaven. They learned to trust
God just like Abram did. (Abram’s group move on). Every day Abram
trusted God to show them the way to go. Finally they reached the
land of Canaan and camped at a place called Shechem. (All sit down
near the altar) It was there in Shechem that God spoke to Abram
again.
Male voice Abram, I am going to give this land to your children and
your children’s children, and their children. (Abram kneels).
Narrator Now, the people of Canaan worshipped idols. They did
it in the very place where Abram was camped. Did Abram worship
idols with them? Oh, no! Abram built an altar to God at Shechem.
Abram and his family and his servants and all the people with them
worshipped God together. (Kneel around the altar while Abram prays a
short prayer thanking God for leading them safely).
After Shechem, God led Abram to a place called Bethel. (Abram leads
the children in a circle back to the altar) And when they got there what
do you think they did? Yes, they built another altar and worshipped
God.
Every time Abram and his family stopped and camped somewhere,
Abram made an altar. Abram always made a place for his family to
worship God. Today Christian families worship God at home and at
church.
Song God Was Watching over Abram (Music supplied)
Debriefing How do you think Abram felt when he arrived in Canaan,
the place God told him would be his home? What was the first thing
Abram did when he stopped at a new place? Abram was never too
busy or too tired to worship God. Who worshipped with him? Why
did Abram build altars? Why do we go to church today?
Because Christian families worship God together. Say it with me.
4. APPLYING THE LESSON
Abram and his family worshipped around an altar made of stones. We
don’t do that today. Where do we worship? (At home, at church, at
camps, etc). Some people say that the place at home where we have
family worship is our family altar. Where is your family altar? (Invite the
children to give suggestions) How do we worship? (Sing, pray, listen
to Bible stories, etc.) How does our memory verse tell us to worship
God? (With gladness). How do you feel when you worship God with
Lot Chooses First
COMMUNITY Community means loving one other
This is a good activity to do outside if possible. Have the children line up
behind a line marked on the floor or ground.
We are going to play a game called You First. When I call your name
and tell you what to do, you must turn to a child on one side of you
and say “You first.” That child will do what I have asked and then you
can do the same. If I say, ”Peter, take one step forward.” Peter must
turn to someone beside him and say, “You first.” After that child has
moved, Peter can move. If Peter forgets to say “You first”, he has to
go back to the starting line. Are you all ready?
56…Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1

Call out simple instructions such as, take a jump forward, take a step
backwards, take two steps forward, step to the side, touch your toes,
put your hands on your head. Be sure to call each child.
Debriefing Was it hard to remember to let others go first? How
did you feel when you had to go back because you forgot? Is it
sometimes hard to let your little brother have first choice? In our story
today, Abram was kind and loving and let someone else have first
chapter and the memory verse (Genesis 13:8).
Read the verse aloud. If it is easier for your class, exchange the word
“fighting” instead of “quarrelling.” Practice the words, then pair off the
children and have them use the actions suggested:
Let’s - arms open wide
Not have - shake head
Any fighting - make fists and pretend to be ready to fight
Between you - point to other person with both hands
And me - point to self with both hands
Genesis 13:8
Song When We All Pull Together (music supplied).
Experiencing the Story
Needed Costumes for Abram and Lot. You may use adults or older
children. Use two different coloured pieces of paper write “Go away!”
and “Its our turn.”
Divide the class into two groups. One will be Abram’s servants and the
other will be Lot’s servants. Abram’s servants are to shout “Go Away”
when you show their paper. Lot’s group will shout “It’s our turn” when
shown the other paper. Practice doing it.
This is Abram. This is Lot. They are very rich men. They both have
hundreds of sheep and goats and other animals. They are wontoks.
Abraham is Lot’s uncle. He is older than Lot. Abram doesn’t have any
children of his own, so he treats Lot like a son or brother.
Lot has been living with Abram’s family for a long time. They used to
live in the city called Ur, until God told Abram to go to a new place He
would show him. They travelled together for a long time all the way
to Canaan. Then they went to Egypt and back to Canaan. Now they
want to settle down and stay put for a while.
Abram and Lot love each other. They get along well, but – uh-oh-
there’s trouble. (Hold up first one paper then the other for the children
to shout at each other) Abram has a lot of servants to look after all
his animals (Hold up paper for Abram’s servants). And Lot has many
servants to look after all his animals, too. (Hold up paper for Lot’s
servants). Abram’s servants do not like Lot’s servants (Abram’s
paper). And Lot’s servants feel the same about Abram’s
servants (Lot’s paper). Abram’s servants want the best grass and
water for Abram’s animals (Abram’s paper). Lot’s servants want what
is best for Lot’s animals (Lot’s paper).
So both sets of servants take the animals to the same best grass and
to the same best watering place. Then the animals get all mixed up.
58…Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1

And there isn’t enough grass for them all to eat. Oh no, it is all too sad.
Abram’s servants and Lot’s servants quarrel (Both papers, twice). Then
the servants run to their masters and tell them all the bad things the
other man’s servants are doing. (Have servants run to Abram and Lot
and wave their arms and point at the other man’s servants).
What a sad way for God’s people to act. Abram knows the time has
come for him and Lot to live in different places. Remember, Abram
is older than Lot. Lot only got rich because he was living with Uncle
Abram. And the land really belonged to Abram. So who should have
first choice? That’s right! Uncle Abram. He should be able to choose
where he wanted to live and let Lot have what’s left over. But Abram is
kind and loving. He likes to put others first.
So Abram went to talk to Lot. (Have Abram and Lot act this part).
“Lot, let’s not have any quarrelling (fighting) between you and me.
Look around. Choose the land that you want and take your family and
your animals and go and live there.”
So Lot looked around. (He will act as you talk). Over there, to the left
the land was very nice, with plenty of grass, but there were some
rocky places. Yes, it would be a good place to live. Ah! But look over
there to the right. Just see how lush and green the grass is ! There
is more than enough for all my animals. They would really grow fat
eating there. And see the river with plenty of sweet, fresh water for
them to drink. And the city of Sodom is near, too. What a great place
to live! So Lot chose to go to the right. He took his servants and
animals and off he went. (Lot and his servants go off to the right).
Abram took what was left. He and Sarai packed up again and took
his servants and his animals and went off the other way. There was
no more quarrelling because Abram was kind and loving and let Lot
choose first.
Debriefing Who was the most loving person in this story? What
might have happened if Abram had chosen first? How would you
have felt if you had been Lot? Abram? The servants? Why did
Abram let Lot choose first?
Kind and loving people put others first. Say it with me.
4. APPLYING THE LESSON
Today we’re going to play a quiz game. I will call someone to come
to the front to answer a question. When he gives the right answer the
rest of you will shout, “That’s the right answer!” (Practice the shouting).
First question (To a child you have called) Your friend has come to
play. Your Mama brings you two biscuits. One is bigger than the
other. Who should choose first? (When the child answers “my friend”
signal the class to shout “That’s the right answer!”)
Other questions: Say “your friend and you….” or “your sister and
you…” or “two children…“ Want to sit in the same seat in the car. Who
should choose first? Play with the same toy. Who should get to choose
first? Sit by the teacher. Who should get to choose first? Read the same
picture book…, Use the same cup…, Sit in the special chair…, Open the
parcel.…
Debriefing Is it always easy to let someone else go first? Why should
we do it? It makes the other person feel happy. They will be willing to
share.
It shows we are kind and loving. Kind and loving people put others
first. Say it with me.
Experiencing the Story
Needed Basket with 10 kaukau; basket with 10 “treasures” (they may
be plastic cups covered with foil); bag with 10 coins; tithe envelope.
You can just tell the story, or have children act it. You will need 5 small
children to be 5 kings (give them crowns). Choose one to be the king of
Sodom (Bera) and one to be the king of Salem (Melchisedek). Choose
the 4 tallest children to be the enemy kings. (Give them crowns). Choose
one to be Lot and one to be Abram. Place Lot and the kings on one
side with the baskets and bag. The four enemy kings will be on the
other side. Abram in the middle.
Narrator Act the story. Point to the people named
Lot lived in the city of Sodom. The city had a king named Bera. He
had 4 friend kings in other cities. So there were 5 cities with 5 kings.
The 5 kings had 4 enemy kings. The 5 kings decided to fight the
4 enemy kings. (Bring all the kings to the centre). But the 4 enemy
kings were stronger and the 5 kings had to run away (Have them sit
down). So the 4 enemy kings captured the cities and all the people,
including Lot and his family, and all their treasures and all their food,
and all their money. (Move the 4 kings in front of Lot and the baskets).
But one of Lot’s servants escaped. He ran to Abram. (Have a child do
it). He told Abram. “Come quickly. Something terrible has happened.
Lot and all the people have been captured. Please do something.”
So Abram and his neighbours and their fighting men gathered
together and they went after the 4 enemy kings. (Some children join
Abram; speak softly). They marched very quietly. They waited till it
was night time and the enemy kings were asleep. Abram and his men
gave them a big surprise (Have Abram and his group shout “Surprise”.
The 4 kings go and sit down.)
Abram collected Lot, who was really really happy to see his uncle
Abram, and they picked up all the things and left for home. On the
way they met Melchisedek, the king of Salem and Bera, the King of
Sodom. (Remember, he was one of the kings who ran away from the
4 enemy kings; the two children stand up). Melchisedek was not only
an important King, but he was one of God’s men. He was a priest or
pastor.
Abram knelt in front of Melchisedek while Melchisedek put his hands
on Abram’s head and blessed him. He said. “God has delivered
your enemies into your hand.” (Have the child repeat the words after
you). Then Abram gave Melchisedek one tenth of everything. He did
it to say thank you to God for giving him the victory over the enemy.
Pacific Kindergarten Leader-Teacher Guide: Year A Quarter 1…63

We call it giving our tithe to God. (Show tithe envelope; have the
children count the contents of the baskets and give the tenth one to
Melchisedek).
The King of Sodom said to Abram. “Give me the people but keep
everything else for yourself. (Get the child to repeat the words).
Abram said, “Oh, no. I will take nothing belonging to you” (Abram
will say it after you). So Abram took nothing from the king except the
food his men had already eaten. King Bera gave the neighbours their
share, but Abram took nothing for himself. (Give the king the baskets
and money bag). Then they all went home again.
Debriefing What happened when the 5 friendly kings went to fight the
4 enemy kings? What did Abram do to help Lot? Who really won the
battle for Abram? How do we know that? (Melchisedek said so). Why
did Abram give one tenth of everything to Melchisedek? What do we
call the tenth? We still give back a tenth to God today. Why do you
think we do that? How much did Abram keep for himself? Why do
you think Abram helped Lot and the people? Why didn’t he want a
reward for being kind?
Because Helping others is our gift of love. Say it with me.
4. APPLYING THE LESSON
Prepare several piles of ten –peanuts, shells, stones, dry beans, toeas.
Explain that tithe is the one tenth that belongs to God. He uses it to help
other people know about Him. We give it because we love God and we
want to say ‘Thank You for looking after us.”
Have the children sort out the tithe of each pile. Hold up a tithe
envelope. Show them how you prepare your tithe envelope – Name,
amount of money. Have a child put the money in it. Explain what you do
with the tithe envelope.
Debriefing Why do we give tithe to God? How do you feel when you
help someone? Do you only help people who will give you a reward?
Why do we help other people?
Because Helping others is our gift of love. Say it.
5. SHARING THE LESSON
Have a box wrapped like a present. Have the lid wrapped separately
so it can be opened. Have a picture of Jesus inside. You also need a
smiley face. Invite a child to open the box.
present make you feel happy? Do you know there are some presents
you can give to your family and friends every day? These presents
are gifts of love. (Show smiley face). Can you show me your smiling
faces? Your happy face is like a present to your family. When you
leave Sabbath School today, it would be nice if you go and give your
Mama and Papa a big smile and hug just because you love them.
Could you do that? Guess who would be happy? (Jesus, Mama,
Papa, and you, too; If you have a marker pen you could draw a simple
smiley face on the back of each child’s hand to remind them that their
smile is a present they can give their family).
Experiencing the Story
Needed A tent for Sarah to hide in; a shady tree; banana or coconut
fronds, a tray with some small pieces of food- such as kaukau, bread, or
peanuts.
The story is told by Abraham and Sarah – adults dressed in costume.
Abraham Good morning. Welcome to my home. I always like to
offer visitors some food Would you like something to eat? Come and
sit close to me beside my tent. (He passes around the tray of food).
Let me tell you about some other visitors I had. I was sitting
here one day and when I looked up, they were standing just over
there. (Point). It was really hot and they looked tired and dusty. I
jumped up and invited them to stay and have something to eat. It was
nice and cool under this shady tree. I got some water and washed
their dusty feet. It is our custom to do that.
My wife, Sarah and the servants cooked some food for us and I sat
and talked to them while they ate.
We had a very interesting talk. You see Sarah and I are very old. She
has had 90 birthdays! I don’t think you children have ever met anyone
that old! We never had any children, which was rather sad. So I was
really surprised when one of those visitors told me Sarah would have a
baby boy in a year’s time. I could hardly believe what he said because
old people like us don’t usually have babies. Sarah was inside the tent
listening to what we were saying. She’s there now. Come out, Sarah
and tell these children just what happened.
Sarah (Coming out of hiding) Yes, just as my husband, Abraham said,
I was inside the tent while the visitors were eating and Abraham was
talking to them. When I heard the man say I was going to have a baby,
I nearly fell off my chair laughing. Look at me. I am an old woman!
I am much too old to have a baby. Then I heard the man ask why I
was laughing. “Is anything too hard for God?” he asked. I stopped
laughing in a hurry. Only God could see me laughing there inside my
tent. Only God could read my thoughts.
Well God’s promise came true. Now we have a beautiful baby boy.
We have named him Isaac which means “he laughs” in our language.
God surely made me laugh before, and this special baby brings much
happiness to our home, I want to laugh all the time. Abraham and I
Debriefing Would you be surprised if your grandmother had a baby?
How can you show the people in your family that you love them? By
being kind, by doing nice things for them, by helping with the work at
5. SHARING THE LESSON
Remind the children about the three families we have learned about
this quarter; Adam and Eve, Noah and Abraham and Sarah. What
was special about them all? They all loved God. They were Christian
