The Gibe III hydropower plant is the third plant of the Gibe cascade developing the hydroelectric potential of
the Gibe-Omo river including:
• Gilgel Gibe or Gibe I operating since 2004
• Gibe II currently under completion
• Gibe IV and Gibe V projects, for hydropower and agricultural uses, currently being planned
The figure below shows the location of Gibe III (coordinates 312,200 E, 757 200 N, dam axis) and of the
other plants of the Cascade within the Omo river basin.
