1.4 Complementary Initiatives <strong>and</strong> Associated Reports<br />

This <strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Impact</strong> <strong>Assessment</strong> is accompanied by the following volumes of reports:<br />

i) <strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>Impact</strong> <strong>Assessment</strong>: Additional Study on downstream <strong>Impact</strong>s<br />

The Downstream <strong>Impact</strong>s associated with the construction <strong>and</strong> operation of <strong>Gibe</strong> <strong>III</strong> scheme are addressed in<br />

a separate report.<br />

ii) <strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Social</strong> Management Plan<br />

The <strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Social</strong> Management Plan (ESMP) is also presented in a separate report. The<br />

objective of the ESMP is to ensure effective implementation of mitigation, management <strong>and</strong> monitoring<br />

measures.<br />

iii) Resettlement Action Plan: <strong>Gibe</strong> <strong>III</strong> Hydroelectric Project<br />

The Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) is documented in a separate report. The RAP for the <strong>Gibe</strong> <strong>III</strong><br />

Hydroelectric facilities (dam <strong>and</strong> reservoir, EEPCO permanent camp <strong>and</strong> the Chida-Sodo Road Realignment<br />

Project, etc), details about the resettlement <strong>and</strong> compensation commitments <strong>and</strong> the process by which<br />

resettlement <strong>and</strong> compensation will be implemented are presented in this report.<br />

iv) <strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Impact</strong> <strong>Assessment</strong>: <strong>Gibe</strong> <strong>III</strong>-Sodo Transmission Line<br />

A 65 km long 400 kV transmission line is to be constructed between <strong>Gibe</strong> <strong>III</strong> <strong>and</strong> Sodo substation. An ESIA<br />

has been carried out <strong>and</strong> the result presented in this report.<br />

v) Resettlement Action Plan: <strong>Gibe</strong> <strong>III</strong>-Sodo Transmission Line<br />

A 65 km long 400 kV transmission line is to be constructed between <strong>Gibe</strong> <strong>III</strong> <strong>and</strong> Sodo substation will affect<br />

privately owned properties <strong>and</strong> farml<strong>and</strong>. Therefore, EEPCO’s EMU has prepared a st<strong>and</strong>alone RAP report.<br />

vi) <strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Impact</strong> <strong>Assessment</strong>: Chida-Sodo Road Realignment<br />

A section of the existing Chida-Sodo road <strong>and</strong> the bridge across the Omo River will be submerged by <strong>Gibe</strong><br />

<strong>III</strong> reservoir. This is a Federal Road <strong>and</strong> a new alignment <strong>and</strong> a sight for a bridge across the Omo<br />
