Machine Vision Lenses for Multi-Megapixel Cameras
The LINOS MeVis-C lenses are specifically
developed to be used with the highest
resolution sensors available on the
market. An exceptionally high resolution
across the entire sensor ensures excellent
performance for the most demanding
applications.
Designed with no brightness fall off or
distortion across the full field and a
chromatic correction through the entire
operating wavelength range (450 - 900
nm) to eliminate irritating color fringes
these lenses resolve up to 200 lines per
mm even in the extreme image corners.
The resolution is high enough for a 12
Mpixel sensor with up to 1 inch image
diameter. The mechanical housing is
designed with lockable screws to work in
any machine vision environment and fits
also to all commercially available 3 chip
cameras with beam splitters.
The MeVis-C lenses are also available in a
motorized version called MeVis-Cm. This
series comes with a motorized
MeVis-Cm (Motorized)
Image processing systems will increasingly
be integrated into production
equipment. Hence, manufacturers are
faced with growing requirements on
optical systems. Thanks to their
outstanding optical properties, the
proven MeVis-C lenses from LINOS meet
the highest demands. Therefore, MeVis
lenses are the No. 1 choice when it comes
to industrial inspection and machine
vision.
To meet the added requirements on high
flexibility, LINOS expanded its product
series with a motorized version. Motorization
of the MeVis-Cm lenses enables
automated adjustment of the focus and
diaphragm, which is a tremendous
advantage, for instance, for fixed equipment
that is difficult to access. Encoders
in the MeVis-Cm ensure precise and
reproducible adjustment.
MeVis-Cm lenses are easy to integrate,
for example, into industrial inspection
equipment for production plants. The
reason is that the lenses have a C-mount
fitting for simple mechanical adaptation
to CCD Cameras. Because of their rugged
design, the motorized lenses are ideal for
use under tough industrial conditions.
MeVis-CF
Superior Optical Performance Packaged
in a Compact and Robust Housing
With the new MeVis-CF series LINOS
introduces a new line of lenses to serve
applications requiring best possible
imaging quality from a compact, robust
lens package. The optical per-formance is
equal to the renowned MeVis-C series.
The mechanics, however, are designed to
be as simple as possible.
The major difference to the MeVis-C
series is the fixed aperture which enables
the durability and size needed for space-
constrained applications. The lenses are
available in several versi-ons offering a
variety of apertures.
Qioptiq is a world-leading manufacturer for optical systems of X-Ray Imaging.
These range from numerous standard optics and customized lenses
up to complete radiology cameras. Angiographic, surgical or lithotripsy
applications require the highest image quality and a high dynamic range.
These demands are realized via high-aperture and fully motorized units.
Swing-in filters, automatic stop adjustment, integrated incident light reading
and modular focus have been design standards at Qioptiq for a long
time.
Inspec.x 2.8/50 UV-VIS APO
Due to the short wavelength of UV light,
illumination causes light scatter off the
surface of objects, so it is possible to
show scratches and defects which would
be impossible to detect otherwise. This
makes UV imaging an ideal solution for
surface inspection and quality control of
semiconductor materials. Other UV
applications include forensic, pharmaceutical
and biomedical imaging. Also oil
contamination and leakage can be
detected.
With an optical design consisting of high
precision fused silica and calcium fluoride
elements, the inspec.x UV Lenses are
suitable for high resolution imaging with
UV cameras in the wavelength range of
240 - 700 nm.
The inspec.x L-line consists of eight
lenses. While the 4/60 and 4/100 lenses
are optimized for a magnification of 1:30
and 1:20 the for variants of the 5.6/105
are optimized for 1:3, 1:2, 1:1.5 and 1:1
respectively. The inspec.x L 4/105 3.5X is
optimized for a magnification of 3.5 : 1
and the inspec.x L 3.5/105 5X is designed
to deliver diffraction limited performance
at 5X magnification.
All lenses cover line sensors of up to
70 mm length and the superb resolution
makes it possible to use the lenses for
pixel sizes down to 5 µm.
The 4/60 and the 4/100 can be equipped
with the Modular focus focussing unit
and a broad range of different camera
mounts, whereas the 105 mm lenses are
mountable via a v-groove. By using this
v-groove the best azimuth (factory
marked) can be used. As the v-groove is
present at both ends of the 5.6/105 mm
lenses, these can easily be used in the
retro position to achieve a magnification
of 3:1, 2:1 and 1.5:1 respectively.
An optimized tube system with fine
adjustment of magnification is available
Precision Optics for F-mount
You would like to use a robust objective
lens with high performance optics
instead of a wobbly photographic lens
on your industrial camera? The Rodagon
F series is the solution that also offers a
great price/performance ratio. The
completely new and very robust mechanical
design without moving parts
makes it possible for the first time to use
enlarging lenses with focal lengths from
40 to 60 mm of the famous Rodenstock
era on F-mount. The smooth focussing is
Apo-Rodagon HR
High Resolution Lenses for Line Scan Applications
The new Apo Rodagon HR series is
designed to close the gap between the
high-resolution lenses of the inspec.x L
series and the Apo Rodagon D lenses,
both in terms of imaging quality and
price. The first lens of this new series is
the Apo Rodagon HR 0.5X which is
optimized for a magnification of 0.5X or
2X when used in retro position. The
recommended magnification range is
0.35X to 0.65X.
The robust mechanics of this lens make it
suitable for applications in the harshest
environments. Thanks to the use of a
fixed aperture there are no moving parts
present that could cause problems in
vibrating environments. The standard
aperture of F/5.6 is the value at which
the lens achieves the optimum performance.
For larger aperture values diffraction
already limits the achievable resolution.
If a larger aperture value is necessary
to achieve a certain depth of field,
other versions with F/8 and F/11 are
available (values in between upon
request).
The lens easily resolves 80 lp/mm and is
therefore suitable for pixel sizes down to
5 µm. Combined with the large image
circle of 62 mm this makes the Apo
Rodagon HR 0.5X a very good match for
the popular 12 k / 5 µm line scan
cameras.
The Apo Rodagon HR 0.5X features the
same focal length as the Apo Rodagon
D2X 75 mm and can therefore replace
this lens if higher resolution is needed.
• Supports 12 k / 5 µm sensors
• Compact and robust mechanics
• High performance for a good price

NIR-Lenses
Spectral Range of 800-1400 nm
Because the sensitivity of CCD sensors is
very low in the NIR region it is absolutely
vital to bring every available photon
onto the sensor. Standard lenses that are
optimized for visible light are not
optimal for this task as the transmission
in the NIR region is often below 70 %.
LINOS now offers specialized lenses for
the interesting NIR region that offer
outstanding transmission of up to 98 %
in this wavelength range.
Selection guide
MachVis software is designed to help you find the right lens for your machine
vision application. Starting with 4 simple parameters (object size,
working distance, sensor size, camera mount) MachVis calculates the necessary
optical parameters and then, from the extensive Qioptiq lens catalogue,
selects all suitable lenses that meet the specifications.
If mechanical accessories (e.g. focussing unit, extension tubes etc.) are
needed, MachVis will create a printable, itemised list of the required
parts. MachVis also generates a schematic drawing of the lens and accessories
in the order of assembly.
Specifications, along with your own project notes, may be saved to disk
for later recall. Datasheets (PDF) for each lens may be viewed for a more
detailed analysis.
Telecentric Lenses
Item Title Length L (mm) Working Distance
Objectives for 2D and 3D Measurement Applications
Metrology, quality inspection and image
analysis are the most important applications
for telecentric measuring lenses.
The advantage of using a telecentric lens
is that it produces an image over a
spatial depth. Within its telecentric
range, the imaging scale remains
constant so that correct image dimensions
can be measured from three
dimensional objects for software
controlled processing.
LINOS has developed telecentric lenses
each for 1/2“ and 2/3“ CCD cameras with
different object area diameters. They are
characterized by extreme sharpness,
freedom from distortion and a high
aperture (NA = 0.1).
All models are designed for the visible
spectral range and come fitted with an
iris which allows adjustment of the depth
of field. The large working distance
makes illumination and operation easier.
Mechanical Adaptions
Given that the Measuring Lenses for
Large Format Sensors have a quite
unusual thread (M39x1/26") and no
focusing device we have
created a complete range of ways to
adapt those lenses to all existing camera
systems:
Modular Focus
A helical mount with modular possibilities
of adapting numerous LINOS CCD
Lenses onto different camera threads.
The Modular Focus is designed to keep
the lens from rotating during focusing.
Using “Lens adapters“ for M32.5 and
M39 lens threads and “Camera adapters“
for all existing camera threads like
C- mount, F-mount, M42x1 and individual
camera threads for DALSA, ATMEL,
BASLER etc.
Smart Focus
Low cost version of Modular Focus with
M39 thread for lenses and using the
camera adapters from the Modular Focus
system.
Difference to Modular Focus? The lift is
shorter than the one from Modular Focus
and the lens is rotating while it is
focused.
Focus Adapter System
The lens adapter 1094.2408.005.101 is
used to enlarge the serial M39 thread up
to M42x1.
Together with retaining ring
1094.2408.005.102, which fixes the
reached focus position, it is already
possible to mount the lenses onto
M42 camera threads. Refering to focal
length and magnification it will be
necessary to use extension tubes like
1094.2408.005.103.
The Focus Adapter System was created as
a reasonable alternative to the existing
helical mounts. It is mainly used in OEM
applications were a quick and safe adaption
of the well known LINOS lenses is
needed.

Fetura VMS
Vision Metrology Sytem
Fetura - Measurably Different
The new FeturaVision Metrology
System from Qioptiq represent a fresh
new look at optical measurement. For
nearly thirty years, we’ve been supplying
high precision optics for machine vision,
quality control and inspection applications.
Now, we’ve taken that expertise,
coupled it with cutting-edge technology
and innovative designs, and developed a
unique system that integrates state-ofthe-art
components to deliver outstanding
productivity, flexibility, and
precision.
World’s Fastest and Most Precise Optical
Zoom Lens
At the heart of each system is our
innovative FeturaAdvanced Zoom
Imaging System. Designed to withstand
the most extreme rigors of industrial
imaging, Fetura features an innovative
electronic linear rail design for unprecedented
speed, reliability, and accuracy.
Able to zoom across its 12.5:1 magnification
range in less than 1 second, Fetura
approaches the speed of digital zoom
lenses. But since Fetura is a true optical
zoom, it doesn’t suffer from the loss of
resolution inherent in digital zooms. And
its non-linear field-of-view calibration
removes distortion and centration errors.
The result is lower inspection cycle times
and industry-leading magnification
accuracy and repeatability.
Robust, Proven Mechanical Design
To meet the demanding needs of global
manufacturers, CNC coordinate measuring
systems require high speed XYZ
stages that are accurate, repeatable, and
reliable. Fetura’s high precision XYZ
stages feature the proven fixed-bridge
design, optimized by FEA (finite element
analysis). In addition to the rigid granite
base and uprights, we’ve incorporated
high technology aviation alloys to
maximize positioning accuracy and
system productivity. Even the system’s
protective covers are highstrength,
reinforced fiberglass rather than the
formed plastic commonly seen on competitive
systems. The result is a machine
that you can rely on day-in and day-out
to deliver consistent precision and high
throughput.
Powerful Software to Solve Demanding
Applications
Controlling each Fetura system is our
exclusive PowerMetrixmetrology
software. PowerMetrix is highly-capable
software that is surprisingly easy-to-use.
With it, the user can program repetitive
measurement tasks, thereby automating
the entire inspection process. PowerMetrix
includes all the tools for precise image
processing, coordinate data acquisition,
and geometric calculation. Direct output
to Excel®ensures compatibility with your
custom reports and analysis tools. For
detailed analysis of surface shapes and
forms compared to a CAD model, our
optional PowerMatchsoftware displays
point cloud deviations in a color map
that makes it easy to see areas of
non-conformance.

Revolutionary Zoom Optics
Image Navigator
Color Edge Detection
We have carefully engineered Fetura to
embody the features and characteristics
most often required for non-contact
metrology. Industry best practice and our
extensive first-hand experience with
some of the world’s largest manufacturers
combine to deliver an outstanding set
of technology-driven features:
Revolutionary Zoom Optics
A unique linear rail design with synchronized
motors for each lens cell propels
Fetura across its 12.5:1 magnification
range in 0.8 seconds, ten times faster
than traditional cam-based zoom lenses.
Plus, it maintains its exacting optomechanical
precision over 1 million cycles with
minimal performance degradation.
Flexible Automated Illumination
Fetura’s all-LED illumination is fully
programmable for intensity, direction,
and angle-of-incidence. Plus, our
real-time Auto Light Control automatically
sets the optimum intensity during
program playback. If you’re molding the
same part in different colors, or if surface
reflectivity changes from sample to
sample, you’ll appreciate not having to
constantly “tweak” your programs.
Image Navigator
Finding your way around a complex part
using a magnified image can be a
daunting task. Our new Image Navigator
provides a separate digital camera with
macro lens that shows a huge field-ofview,
so it’s easy to identify a feature of
interest. Simply click on a feature in the
Image Navigator, and Fetura’s stages
automatically position to it.
Color Edge Detection
In addition to high-precision grayscale
edge detection, Fetura also includes a
mode that allows automated measurement
of edges that are formed by a
difference in color. This removes the
need for “manual pick” points due to
insufficient grayscale contrast, thereby
extending the application envelope.
Machine Vision Lenses
Easy-to-Use Software Interface
Routine measurement tasks are easily
programmed through the PowerMetrix
GUI. PTB certified fitting algorithms
ensure the highest precision in its class.
Plus, we’ve included graphical animations
that illustrate key concepts and
construction methods to optimize
training time and make it easy for new
users to learn the system.
Advanced Scripting Engine
For specialized applications that go
beyond the standard software tools,
PowerMetrix includes a highly sophisticated
scripting engine using the industry
standard Visual Basic language. Advanced
users have complete control over the
system’s motion control, image processing,
data analysis, and output to create
customized metrology solutions.
Multisensor Integration
Multisensor Integration
With our optional laser scanning system,
both laser autofocus and high-speed area
scanning are easily accomplished. In
addition, dense point clouds can be
rapidly acquired from sculptured
surfaces. Data can then be analyzed in
the optional PowerMatchsoftware
where it is compared against the CAD
model. The resulting deviations are
shown in an easy-to-understand
graphical format.
Ready for Today... And Tomorrow
Fetura provides the throughput and
productivity to keep up with today’s
highly integrated manufacturing
operations. From fast stage speeds and
short cycle times, to multiple machine
models that cover virtually every
non-contact measurement application,
Fetura is the right choice at the right
time.
Flexibility, Versatility and Power in a
Single Package
To meet the needs of diverse manufacturing
sectors, PowerMetrix includes a
unique set of tools to solve almost any
non-contact measurement application. In
addition to the standard geometric
measurement functions, it also provides
several innovations:
Integrated Machine CAD Model
A functional 3-D CAD model of the
Fetura Vision Metrology System can be
displayed in the PowerMetrix screen. In
addition to showing the machine
movements and measurement results
during an inspection, it may be used to
simulate the cycle when creating
programs and testing offline.
Multipoint Autofocus
For systems not equipped with the laser
scanning option, this tool provides a
convenient way to measure a grid of up
to 40 x 40 points in one autofocus scan,
for detailed surface topography maps.
Image Stitching
470 Phone numbers: US +1 585 223 2370 UK +44 2380 744 500 Singapore +65 6499 7766
Use PowerMetrix to create an image of
your part in its entirety, even when it’s
larger than the field-of-view. Simply
position the start and end images of your
part with the system joystick, and
PowerMetrix will scan in-between and
automatically create the mosaic image.
Edge Scanning
Without any knowledge of the profile of
your part, this tool can follow the edge
until it returns on itself (for a closed
contour), or between a start and end
point. Data point density may be set by
the user. This is ideal for irregular
geometric features.

PowerMatch Fitting & Analysis
Software
3D Comparison to CAD Model for
Complex Surfaces
PowerMatch works with coordinate data
point clouds (whether generated by a
Fetura system or some other device) and
compares them to the theoretical CAD
model. In this way, higher order 3-D
curves and surfaces can be analyzed as a
group for conformance to the design. In
addition, PowerMatch can provide 2-D
analyses such as cross-sections, circularity,
and profile, etc.
Design
During the design phase, PowerMatch
can be used to compare data from
engineering prototypes, preliminary
mock-ups, or reverse engineered
components.
Process
After design approval, verification of the
manufacturing process is critical.
PowerMatch can verify the precision of
tooling, and graphically display the
effect of independent variables (temperature,
material, etc.) on the dimensional
characteristics of the finished component.
Assembly
PowerMatch can be used to test for
deformation of components in assembly
fixtures, and to check for dimensional
changes due to duty cycle or environmental
factors.
Quality Assurance
The detailed color-coded deviation maps
output by PowerMatch can be an
important part of the quality documentation
delivered to your customer.
Q-Enabled
Many of the lighting techniques commonly in use today have their
origins in microscopy. Today, thanks to continual development
over the years, they meet the stringent demands of industrial
image processing. This is due in large part to the advent of the
ISO-9000 standards, in which industrial image processing systems
are used for quality assurance and documentation.
Another area of application is in production, where yield and costs
have been optimized through automation; for example, in the
manufacture of chips for electronic equipment. The following outline
is intended to provide assistance in selecting the best illumination
for vision sensor applications. LINOS provides high-quality
light sources for imaging applications. Read more about technical
background in Optolines No 21 or online.
