This remarkable coin has not been attributed with<br />

certainty <strong>to</strong> any particular city. The type <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> reverse<br />

seems <strong>to</strong> be Campanian. There can be no doubt, however,<br />

that it belongs <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> middle <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fourth century.<br />

2. Etruria. M. Obv. ©ElVE. Cow's head. Hev. Sea-horse,<br />

Par<strong>the</strong>nope, <strong>the</strong> ancient name <strong>of</strong> Neapolis, was derived<br />

stephane, <strong>and</strong> veil hanging down behind. £ev. TA. Youthful<br />

The beautiful series <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>gold</strong> money <strong>of</strong> Tarentum<br />

probably commences about <strong>the</strong> middle <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fourth century.<br />

This seems <strong>to</strong> be one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> earliest specimens.<br />
