The reverse types <strong>of</strong> Philip's <strong>coins</strong> refer <strong>to</strong> his vic<strong>to</strong>ries<br />

at <strong>the</strong> Olympian Games. The head <strong>of</strong> Zeus upon this<br />

<strong>silver</strong> stater is a very fine work <strong>of</strong> art, <strong>and</strong> is possibly a<br />

•copy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> famous statue <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Olympian Zeus by Phidias.<br />

This beautiful head may be compared with that <strong>of</strong><br />

Arethusa, struck about <strong>the</strong> same period at Syracuse (III.<br />

C. 30), which it very closely resembles.<br />
