This is <strong>the</strong> celebrated Cleopatra; she reigned B.C. 52-30.<br />

15. Sidon. JR. Obv. Head <strong>of</strong> citv, veiled <strong>and</strong> turreted. Bev.<br />

ZlAQNinN THZ lEPAZ KAI AZYAOY. Eagle, on rudder.<br />

Wt. 211 grs.<br />

Date, year 81 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> third era <strong>of</strong> Sidon, which commenced<br />

B.C. 111. This coin was <strong>the</strong>refore struck B.C. 31.<br />

The right <strong>of</strong> asylum was possessed by many Asiatic cities.<br />

The titles I EPA <strong>and</strong> AZYAOZ first occur on <strong>the</strong> <strong>coins</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

Sidon under Cleopatra <strong>and</strong> Antiochus YIII., B.C. 121.<br />

16. Tyre. Similar <strong>to</strong> VI. A. 29, but dated 11G = B.C. 10. Wt. 216 grs.<br />

17. Aradus. Similar <strong>to</strong> VI. A. 30, but dated 199 = B.C. 60. Wt.<br />

These two interesting <strong>coins</strong> are dated according <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

era <strong>of</strong> Ascalon. The head on No. 18 is that <strong>of</strong> P<strong>to</strong>lemy<br />

Auletes, B.C. 81-52; that on No. 19, <strong>of</strong> his daughter Cleopatra,<br />

B.C. 52-30, who was in B.C. 50 nineteen years <strong>of</strong> age.<br />

Bust <strong>of</strong> king. Bev. Arian legend, Mdhdrajasa trddatasa Apala-<br />

datasa. A<strong>the</strong>na fighting. Wt. 128*5 grs.<br />

This king may have been a son <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ApoUodotus who<br />

was contemporary with <strong>the</strong> last years <strong>of</strong> Eucratides, as<br />

his <strong>coins</strong> are later in style.<br />

21. Hermaeus. M. Obv. BAZIAEHZ ZHTHPOZ EPMAIOY.<br />

Bust <strong>of</strong> king. Bev. Arian legend, Mdhdrajasa trddatasa Heramayasa.<br />

Zeus, seated. Wt. 140-6 grs.<br />

Hermaeus was <strong>the</strong> last <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Greek kings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> northwestern<br />

district <strong>of</strong> India.
