a legionary aquila. Q . M ETELLVS . PIVS . SCI PIO IMPER,<br />
<strong>and</strong> monogram <strong>of</strong> Pergamus. VVt. 187 gi's.<br />
In B.C. 48, <strong>the</strong> year <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> battle <strong>of</strong> Pharsalus, <strong>the</strong><br />
province <strong>of</strong> Asia was without a regular governor, but<br />
Q. Csecilius Metellus ruled it as impera<strong>to</strong>r. The names<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Greek municipal magistrates finally disappear from<br />
<strong>the</strong> coinage under his rule.<br />
6. Cibyra. M. Obv. Helmeted male head. Hev. KIBYPATQN.<br />
Armed horseman, with couched spear, galloping. Magistrate's<br />
name, <strong>and</strong> bee. Wt. 188 grs.<br />
Cibyra was <strong>the</strong> chief <strong>of</strong> a confederacy <strong>of</strong> four cities<br />
governed by a tyrant. The last <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se tyrants, Moagetes,<br />
was put down by Murena, in B.C. 84, <strong>and</strong> Cibyra<br />
was <strong>the</strong>n attached <strong>to</strong> Phrygia. The weight <strong>of</strong> this coin<br />
is that <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cis<strong>to</strong>phorus, <strong>and</strong> it seems probable that it<br />
was struck previous <strong>to</strong> B.C. 84.<br />
7. Galatia, &c. Amvntas, B.C. 36-25. M. Obv. Head <strong>of</strong><br />
