New Idea 6400 Series Balers Pack More In Every Bale
DULUTH, GA – September 2004 — New 6400 Series New Idea round balers are
easygoing when it comes to hay handling and operator ease, but they are hard driving when it
comes to productivity. The series is available in three sizes, the automatic 6464 (4’x6’), the
6454 (4’x5’) and the automatic 6465 (5’x6'). The 6454 and 6464 are also available in silage
models. All five variable-chamber balers are equipped with an extra wide, low profile pickup
and pack more in every bale from the core to the final wrap.
"Quickly capturing crop quality in a consistent package is the goal of every hay
producer," says Shawn Boone, general marketing manager, New Idea. "The 6400 Series balers
are designed to make it easy for operators to consistently produce high quality bales. Whether
fully automatic and equipped with a monitor like the 6465 and 6464 or manual control like the
6454 and equipped with a more basic control box, they build a better bale by sensing bale
surface shape and feeding that information to the operator."
Quality starts at the windrow where, combined with windguard and pickup flares, the
low profile pickup gently gathers large and even windblown windrows. Converging augers
prevent bunching and gently feed leaves and stems to stuffer fingers even in heavy crop
situations. The aggressive stuffer fingers and high capacity, open-throat, vertical bale chamber
deliver quick bale starts and uniform feeding, while hydraulic density and belt tension arms
maintain uniform pressure for consistent bale production.
"All three balers share hydraulic-actuated bale wrapping," says Clay Dell, New Idea
sales engineer. "The in-cab monitor receives information from sensors with direct bale contact
and displays drive arrows that indicate proper bale formation. With the touch of a single button,
the 6465 and 6464 models not only wrap, but also disengage the drive, eject the bale and re-
engage the drive. The operator has better control of bale ejection as opposed to competitive
spring-loaded ejectors."
The hydraulic-actuated bale ejector and the hydraulic pickup lift are standard on the
6464 and 6465 and available as options on the 6454. The New Idea 6465 features the widest
pickup area of the three models with an inside panel to panel width of 83.6 inches (2123 mm).
Bale size indicated both visually and on the operator-friendly monitor can be selected from a
minimum of 32 inches (813 mm) to 72 inches (1829 mm) and a width of 61.5 inches (1562 mm).
A 90 PTO horsepower (67 kW) tractor is recommended for optimum performance over a variety
of terrain and crop levels.
The 6454 and 6464 silage models are equipped with endless belts and special scrapers
and rollers to reduce material buildup in wetter crops. The silage balers are equally effective
baling dry hay.
The 6454 and 6464 balers have a pickup width of 66 inches (1,680 mm) and produce
bales with a width of 46.5 inches (1182 mm). Operators can select bale diameters from 32
inches (813 mm) to a maximum of 72 inches (1829 mm) on the New Idea 6464 and from 30
inches (762 mm) to 60 inches (1524 mm) on the 6454. Bale size on the 6464 and 6465 is shown
on the monitor, while the 6454 offers a visual gauge for bale size.
"Regardless of what size bale a hay producer wants, the New Idea 6400s start bales
faster, handle heavier crops and build better bales," says Boone. "Add the optional mesh wrap,
and these high performance balers shift production into an even faster mode with no reduction in
quality or consistency."
