/ homophobia is a prejudice specific to sexual health
/ it can get in the way of being able to acknowledge your
sexualityÉit can blind a person to the potential for
feelings that they might have
/ homophobia can impact how people feel about
themselves. A person who is homophobic is often
insecure and can suffer from low self esteem which may
lead to risk taking in a same sex encounter (e.g.,
research indicates that low self esteem is often the cause
for sexual risk taking and consequently the increase in
HIV rates).
