Draw the outline of a human body on the blackboard. 2. Ask students to individually think about a risk they have taken and reflect on how their body physically reacted to the stress. Students jot down their thoughts in their notebook. 3. Ask students to join with one other person to compare their reactions to a stressful situation (Think, Pair, Share Activity). 4. Have partner groups join with another partner group to make a group of four. Supply each group of four with chart paper, markers, scissors, and tape. Have the groups discuss and record the different body responses on large pieces of paper that they will post beside the human body drawn on the board. 5. Distribute the Student Resource (Worksheet) to students. Indicate that they should take notes during the class discussion using the worksheet. 6. Identify the various body parts beside the human body drawn on the board. See the Teacher Resource (Background Information). 7. Ask students to post their groupÕs responses in the appropriate spot beside the human body drawn on the board. 8. Lead the class in a discussion to develop a master list of the physical responses the body experiences when undergoing stress. See Teacher Resource (Background Information). 9. At the end of the lesson, ask students to make a journal entry or write a short response to the following statement. e.g., I now know the body physiologically responds to stress byÉ 10. Select a few student responses to assess studentsÕ ability to explain the physiological responses by using the Teacher/Student Resource (Communication Assessment Tool) (see page 6 and 7). Have students self-assess using the same rubric after they have completed their journal entry or response to the sentence stem.
