prunings, rubbish, stumps, conspicuous stones, all down timber, dead brush, logs<br />

<strong>and</strong> timbers; felling <strong>and</strong> destroying <strong>of</strong> all snags <strong>and</strong> such dangerous trees; <strong>and</strong><br />

pruning trees, native shrubs <strong>and</strong> similar vegetation but does not include work to be<br />

performed under Item 201.<br />

656.02 Intensity <strong>of</strong> Cleanup. Control the intensity <strong>of</strong> cleanup to effect a<br />

natural transition in cleanup treatment from the edge <strong>of</strong> the pavement outward to<br />

the limits <strong>of</strong> the Right-<strong>of</strong>-Way to avoid sharp demarcation between the artificial<br />

<strong>and</strong> the natural.<br />

656.03 Cleaning. After removal <strong>of</strong> large objects, clean the designated areas<br />

with grubbing rakes or wide-spaced tooth rakes. Do not disturb or injure desirable<br />

grass, vines, or wild flowers.<br />

656.04 Pruning. Prune trees 6 inches (150 mm) or less in diameter <strong>and</strong> native<br />

shrubs <strong>and</strong> similar vegetation according to Item 666. Consider the diameter <strong>of</strong><br />

existing trees to be the diameter measured at 54 inches (1.4 m) above the ground.<br />

656.05 Disposal <strong>of</strong> Refuse. Use removed materials in the Work when the<br />

material conforms to the specifications; if not, then recycle or dispose <strong>of</strong> the<br />

material according to 105.16 <strong>and</strong> 105.17.<br />

656.06 Method <strong>of</strong> Measurement. The <strong>Department</strong> will measure Roadside<br />

Cleanup by the number <strong>of</strong> M square feet (square meters) cleaned up <strong>and</strong> accepted.<br />

The <strong>Department</strong> will determine the boundaries <strong>of</strong> the area to be cleaned up <strong>and</strong><br />

the number <strong>of</strong> units.<br />

656.07 Basis <strong>of</strong> Payment. The <strong>Department</strong> will pay for accepted quantities at<br />

the contract price as follows:<br />
