Configuring Multiple Frame Types on the 2621A Router<br />

To configure multiple frame types on the 2621A router, you’ll need to add<br />

three new IPX network numbers, one for each frame type you want to add.<br />

When configuring multiple frame types, I like to use the primary number<br />

plus a letter. In this configuration, use 10a for 802.2, 10b for Ethernet_II,<br />

and 10c for SNAP.<br />

For the following configuration, you will create one secondary address on<br />

each router and two subinterfaces. You can do this any way you want, but<br />

this is the way I chose to have you do it.<br />

Here is the configuration for 2621A. Notice that when you use the command<br />

ipx network 10a encap and a question mark, you can see all the supported<br />

encapsulation types and the <strong>Cisco</strong> keywords.<br />

After you configure the secondary address, you need to add two subinterfaces.<br />

If you were configuring this network for a real production network<br />

and needed to support multiple frame types, you would use only subinterfaces<br />

and no secondary networks because <strong>Cisco</strong> will no longer support<br />

secondary commands in the future. The secondary command is only<br />

included here so you understand what it is if you see it in a configuration.<br />

The subinterface numbers can be any number, as the help screen (int<br />

f0/0.?) shows below. The subinterface numbers are only locally significant<br />

and have no bearing on how IPX runs on the internetwork.<br />

2621A(config)#int f0/0.?<br />
