In Ireland, the Giants’ Causeway is a natural
formation of stepping stones from the coast into
the sea. This transitional space hosts large scale
boardgames, such as life-sized chess, creating a
multi-age playing space.

Seasonal kite festival
Children are invited to a kite festival with kites
made in the shipyard hobby centre. Participants
can fly their kites on the Fredericia waterfront.

Rowing or sail boats are crafted with the aid of
former shipyard workers in the shipyard hobby
centre. Human-powered boats may compete in a
boat race held at the floating pool.

vessels, machinery, history, etc. The relationship
between environment, water and vessels is

shipyard workers such as carpentry, metalwork,
welding and wiring, for creative projects from kite

This recreation facility extends Fredericia’s
endowment of sports and recreation grounds to an
indoor area. Climbing walls, parkour, sports courts,
and equipment are available for multi-use activities.

Tents create a sense of place that compliments large
outdoor events. They facilitate a common ground
and erecting them can be a shared activity in itself,
spaces inside facilitate story telling and personal
exchange or activity areas for kids.

An event showcasing technological innovations. It
features input from design colleges and includes
categories such as clean-tech, transport, mobile
devices, smart homes, sustainable buildings etc.

and aids hostel guests while also becoming a
common area for visitors, where all can come
together for eating and socializing activities.

Reusing the on-site train tracks
A refurbished train carriage uses the train tracks
remaining on-site to serve as a gazebo on the
waterfront. From this space people can enjoy
views, have picnics, buy drinks or food. The
space bridges the land and sea, a reminder of
train-to-ferry crossings.
Carbon clock
Inspirational art installation
Carbon clock compares the consumption levels of
communities across Denmark. The installation creates
a peripheral awareness of consumption patterns and
energy sources available. Powered by Dong Energy.
Wave of inspiration
Waterfront adventures
Waterfront facilities for swimming, kite-surfing,
boating, sea fishing. An exchange hub and
local meeting point for boaters, kayakers, long
distance road biking, hikers, etc.

Open air film festival
Danish television station ‘TV2 Zulu’ plays open
air films in the Shipyard of Fredericia. Movies in both
Danish and English are free to watch. You can buy
beer and popcorn and lay on lounge beach chairs.
Eat in a can
A sustainable on-the-spot
restaurant operates out of a
movable shipping container.
Menu features food from the local gardens or the
region. The container uses an electronic deployment
system operated by solar panels.

Visualizing environmental data

A biennial international festival where artists and
designers show innovative/engaging/stunning ways
to visualise environmental data. The whole city
becomes the showcase for these installations.
