n Rutronik integrates fully-owned subsidiary Discomp
Rutronik have integrated Discomp, a fully-owned subsidiary, into the
parent company. The Discomp operations will extend the „Displays &
Embedded Boards“ division in Rutronik to form a new division, named
„Storage, Displays & Boards“. „Storage, Displays & Boards“ is composed
of two separate product groups: the „Storage“ group, which concerns
itself with storage systems, including memory modules, flash memories,
magnetic and optical disk drives, while „Displays & Boards“ will
continue to be responsible for TFT displays, passive displays and
boards.

n Advantech: OPS-compliant digital signage player
Advantech plans to release its Open Pluggable Specification (OPS)
compliant digital signage player ARK-DS220. OPS is created by Intel
to help standardizing the design and development of digital signage
devices and pluggable media players. It will address digital signage
market fragmentation and simplify device installation, usage, maintenance
and upgrades. Advantech plans to showcase the ARK-DS220
with Philips’ OPS digital signage screen at the upcoming Kiosk Europe
Expo. The ARK-DS220 is powered by an Intel Atom D525 dual-core
processor (fan-based) and Intel Atom N455 single-core processor
(fanless) with integrated NVIDIA GT218 (ION2) graphic module for
Full HD playback.

n BittWare: Anemone floating point co-processor for FPGAs
BittWare announces the Anemone floating point co-processor chip for
use with Altera’s FPGAs. Anemone is a scalable, true C-programmable,
floating point engine that enables novel solutions for complex and
evolving signal processing applications. Availability will be via the
soon to be announced Anemone product family of COTS boards
which combine this new technology with Altera’s high-density Stratix
family of FPGAs, and will include a variety of form factors such as
FMC, AdvancedMC, VPX (VITA 46/48/65), and PCI Express slot card.
Anemone was architected specifically for complex signal processing
rather than for I/O, protocol processing, memory interfacing, or
special functions, thus creating an extremely efficient chip compared
to traditional floating point DSPs that may use only 5% of the silicon
area for processing. This has translated into a completely scalable 1
GHz multicore processor with 16 ‘eCore’ processors that provide a
total sustained performance of 32 GFLOPS while consuming only 2
Watts of total chip power.

multipliers. A smaller FPGA with 28,848 logic elements is also available.
The module boasts 128 MB of DDR2 SDRAM memory, 16 MB of
Flash, a real-time-clock and runs off a single 5-16 V power supply
voltage. The 148 user I/Os pins are available on two 168 pin Hirose
FX10 connectors. Up to 24 differential pairs are supported.
