In this issue, we present our Interconnection Services team.
Georgi Barski’s strong team now comprises 10 members,
who are highly committed to providing a unique customer
service for everything concerned with the ancotel physical
meetme room (pmmr). This includes a close-knit organisation
and, above all, effective and efficient work hand-in-hand
with the customer. A detailed description can be found
under the “departments & dialogue” category.
Naturally, under “meet & greet”, we also report again on the
trade fairs that ancotel has attended during the past month
and inform you where we will be represented over the
coming month.

TERALINK, P&TLuxembourgs internationales Hochgeschwindigkeitsglasfasernetzwerk,
ist von Luxemburg aus zugänglich und
erstreckt sich gegenwärtig über 5 verschiedene Länder, darunter

TERALINK, P&TLuxembourg’s international high-speed fibre
network is accessible from Luxembourg and currently spans
5 different countries comprising Germany, France, Great Britain,
Belgium and the Netherlands. Co-operation agreements
with other operators extend the TERALINK range to
every corner of the world.
With its 15 PoPs, TERALINK ensures redundant connections
to the major internet exchange points such as DE-CIX, LINX,
LU-CIX (May 2009) or AMS-IX, with additional uplinks to
major tier-1 providers, providing the infrastructure with the
highest redundant internet capacity in Luxembourg.
The standard services currently offered by TERALINK are
basic point-to-point connectivity services ranging from 100
Mbit/s to 40 Gbit/s per individual link, delivered via wavelength,
SDH and MPLS technology between each of the 15
PoPs and any location in Luxembourg. TERALINK also offers
services allowing companies to build up their own international
broadband intranet and create their own virtual network
across the TERALINK infrastructure.

Caspian Telecoms 2009
Die Caspian Telecoms 2009 hat am 21. und 22. April in Istanbul
stattgefunden. Unter den zahlreichen Teilnehmern waren auch
Volker Burghardt, Director Business Development, Heinrich Sterz,
Head of Management CEE & CIS, und Selin Yükcü, Junior Area
Manager.
Gemeinsam trafen sie viele türkische Kunden, alte und neue
Geschäftspartner. Selin Yükcü, die erst seit Kurzem bei ancotel ist,
hatte die Gelegenheit, sich den Kunden und Ansprechpartnern als
neue Junior Area Managerin vorzustellen. Heinrich Sterz freute
sich, dass auch zahlreiche ancotel Kunden aus Russland, Kasachstan
und Aserbaidschan vertreten waren, mit denen er viele informative
Gespräche führen konnte.
Am 2. Tag hielt Volker Burghardt eine Präsentation über ancotel
und den virtuellen meet me room ( ), womit er großes Interesse
bei den Teilnehmern weckte.
Viele Teilnehmer und Kunden haben den Stand von ancotel
besucht und waren sichtlich begeistert vom Angebot und Service
– schön zu hören, dass ancotel einen solch guten Ruf genießt!
Data Centers Europe 2009 Conference
Vom 22. bis 23. April fand die Data Centres Europe im America
Square Conference Centre in London, England, statt. Natalia Tryapitchnikova,
Carrier Consultant, war vor Ort, um sich dort über
Anforderungen an Auf- und Ausbau von Rechenzentren (Data Centres)
zu informieren.
Caspian Telecoms 2009
Caspian Telecoms 2009 took place on 21 and 22 April in
Istanbul. The numerous participants included Director Business
Development Volker Burghardt, CEE & CIS Head of
Management Heinrich Sterz, and Junior Area Manager Selin
Yükcü.
Together, they met many Turkish customers, as well as old and
new business partners. Selin Yükcü, who joined ancotel only
recently, had the opportunity to introduce herself to the customers
and contacts as the new Junior Area Manager. Heinrich
Sterz was pleased to see the large number of ancotel customers
represented from Russia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan,
with whom he was able to hold many informative discussions.
On the 2nd day, Volker Burghardt gave a presentation about
ancotel and the virtual meet me room ( ), which aroused
great interest among those who were present.
Many participants and customers visited the ancotel stand
and were obviously impressed by the range and service – it
is nice to hear that ancotel enjoys such a good reputation!
Data Centres Europe 2009 Conference
From 22 to 23 April, Data Centres Europe was held in the
America Square Conference Centre in London, England.
Carrier Consultant Natalia Tryapitchnikova was there to find
out about requirements for the establishment and expansion
of data centres.

Auf der Konferenz wurden „Energie- und Kosteneinsparungen“
diskutiert und viele wichtige Aspekte, wie die verschiedenen Möglichkeiten
von Kapazitätswachstum, Qualität, Security und Dienstleistungen.
Der wichtigste Punkt war, dass Strom- und Kühlsysteme
der Rechenzentren europäischer Firmen jährlich mehr als
60.000.000 Megawattstunden Elektrizität verbrauchen. Dies stellt
eine enorme finanzielle Belastung für die europäische Industrie
dar und ist eine der bedeutendsten umweltpolitischen Fragen in
Europa. Die entstehenden Kosten belasten erheblich die Nettobilanz.
Die Teilnehmer besprachen die Grundregeln einer neuen
handelsüblichen Architektur, die zukünftig eingeführt werden
könnte, um die elektrische Leistungsfähigkeit der Rechenzentren
von Unternehmen drastisch zu verbessern und um hohe Energiekosten
zu reduzieren.
Packet Transport Networks 2009
Seit 2006 findet die jährliche IIR’s Packet Transport Networks (PTN)
Konferenz statt, die in den letzten Jahren sehr schnell gewachsen
ist und heute bis zu 220 Fachleute mit guten TDM- und IP-Kenntnissen
anzieht. Die Konferenz hatte vom 27. bis zum 30. April ihre
Türen in Wien, Österreich, geöffnet. Dieses Jahr war Natalia
Tryapitchnikova, Carrier Consultant, vertreten. Die Konferenz bot
an 3 themenorientierten Tagen umfangreiche Diskussionen an, mit
folgenden Themen: die Evolution von schon bereitgestellten
SDH/SONET Netzwerken, die Entwicklung und die Integration des
Carrier Ethernet Transportes und dazugehörige Technologien
(PBB-TE/MPLS-TP/VPLS) und die Entwicklung MPLS als Pakettransportlösung.
Für Natalia war die PTN Konferenz eine gute
“Energy and cost savings” were discussed at the conference
as well as many important aspects such as the various
options for capacity growth, quality, security and services.
The most important point was that power and cooling
systems for the data centres of European companies consume
over 60,000,000 megawatt hours of electricity per year.
This represents a huge financial strain on the European
industry and is one of the most significant eco-political
issues in Europe. The resulting costs place a considerable
strain on the net balance. Participants discussed the ground
rules for a new, standard architecture, which could be introduced
in the future in order both to drastically improve the
electrical efficiency of company data centres and to reduce
high energy costs.

Packet Transport Networks 2009

and integration of carrier Ethernet transport and associated
The IIR’s Packet Transport Networks (PTN) conference has
taken place annually since 2006 and grown rapidly in recent
years, to the point where it now attracts up to 220 specialists
with a good level of TDM and IP knowledge. The conference
opened its doors from 27 to 30 April in Vienna, Austria. Carrier
Consultant Natalia Tryapitchnikova was there this year.
Over 3 themed days, the conference offered extensive
discussions on the following topics: the evolution of the
installed base of SDH/SONET networks, the development
technologies (PBB-TE/MPLS-TP/VPLS), and the evolution of
MPLS as a packet transport solution. For Natalia, the PTN
conference was a good opportunity to deepen her knowled-

Gelegenheit, ihr Wissen zum Thema „Ethernet als Transport
Layer“ zu vertiefen und neue Kontakte zu Experten aufzubauen.
Anhand der Vorträge von Service Providern und Equipment Herstellern
konnte sie ebenfalls ein gutes Wissen über die Anforderungen
der Migration von der TDM Welt auf ein volles Packet Optical
Transport System (OTS) erlangen.
Capacity Balkans 2009
Der Besuch auf der Capacity Balkans in Bukarest, Walachei Rumänien,
vom 27. bis 28. April war für ancotel wie immer sehr erfolgreich.
In den letzten 4 Jahren hat sich diese Capacity des Veranstalters
TelCap, London, zur bedeutendsten Veranstaltung im
Balkanbereich entwickelt. Zusammen mit Klaus-Jürgen Orth,
Managing Director, waren auch Heinrich Sterz, Head of Area
Management CEE & CIS, und Natalie Prodan, Junior Area Manager,
anwesend. Während ihres Aufenthaltes haben sie viele wichtige
Carrier aus ganz Osteuropa angetroffen, konnten neue Kontakte
knüpfen und alte auffrischen. Dabei fanden ancotels Dienste
aus dem Bereich mit den Angeboten für die virtuellen
Vernetzungsmöglichkeiten des in Frankfurt am Main mit
dem ancotel Standort London besonders großes Interesse. ancotel
freut sich auf eine erfolgreiche Geschäftsbeziehung. Auch im
nächsten Jahr wird es ein Wiedersehen auf der Capacity geben –
wir freuen uns darauf.

As ever, the visit to Capacity Balkans in Bucharest, Wallachia,
Romania, from 27 to

28 April was a great success for
ancotel. In the last 4 years, this Capacity conference organised
by TelCap, London, has become the biggest event in the
Balkan region. CEE & CIS Head of Management Heinrich
Sterz and Junior Area Manager Natalie Prodan were present,
together with Managing Director Klaus-Jürgen Orth.
During their stay, they met many important carriers from all
over Eastern Europe, making new contacts and renewing
old acquaintances. Here, particular interest was shown in
ancotel’s services in the area of with the offers for
virtual networking options of the in Frankfurt with the
ancotel location in London. ancotel looks forward to a successful
business relationship. Next year too, we will be back
at Capacity – and we look forward to it!

Kunden von ancotel, bietet das Team Interconnection Services in
den ancotel physical meet me rooms (pmmr) die Zusammenschaltung
von Netzwerken via Glasfaserkabel, Koaxialkabel und
Twisted-Pair-Kupferkabel an.
Das 10-köpfige Team Interconnection Services besteht heute aus:

Das Team Interconnection Services kümmert sich um alle Belange
der physikalischen Anbindung der Kundenleitungen. Diese einfach
klingende Aufgabe hat jedoch viele unterschiedliche Aspekte.
Je nach Kundenwunsch kann sich das Aufgabengebiet vom
Wareneingang über die Rackvorbereitung bis hin zum Einrichten
von Servern erstrecken.
Der Einsatz der Mitarbeiter im Team ist sehr abwechslungsreich
organisiert: Jeder im Team wird flexibel, je nach Projekt, im
Bereich der Vorbereitung, der Verschaltung oder im direkten Kun-

Exclusively for national and international carriers and providers
– ancotel customers – the Interconnection Services
team provides the interconnection of networks via fibre
optic cables, coaxial cables and twisted-pair copper cables
in the ancotel physical meetme rooms (pmmr).
Today, the 10-man Interconnection Services team comprises:

The Interconnection Services team looks after all issues to
do with the physical connection of customer lines. Although
it sounds simple, this task has many different aspects.
Depending on the wishes of the customer, the remit can
range from goods inwards through rack preparation to the
installation of servers.
The deployment of the staff in the team is organised to be
highly varied. Depending on the project, everyone in the
team is deployed flexibly in the areas of preparation, wiring

Kunden benötigten Kabelverbindung zu bestimmen:
- Bei elektrischen Verbindungen werden für 2-Mbit-Leitungen
Twisted-Pair-Kupferkabel eingesetzt. Koaxialkabel finden bei 34und
45-Mbit-Leitungen Verwendung und für Ethernet-Leitungen
mit 10-/100-/1.000-Mbit-Datenrate werden Verbindungen nach
CAT 6/7 durchgeführt
- Bei optischen Verbindungen werden Single-Mode- oder Multi-
Mode-Glasfaserkabel eingesetzt
Im weiteren Verlauf werden die Kabel von den Kundenracks über
Unterboden- oder Lufttrassen zu den physical meet me rooms
(pmmr) gezogen. Der Abschluss im pmmr erfolgt dann in Form
von LSA-Plus-Leisten (2 Mbit) oder im Fall von Verbindungen von
auf RJ45 basierenden Digital Distribution Frames (DDF). Werden
optische Übergabepunkte benötigt, kommen sogenannte Optical
Distribution Frames (ODF) zum Einsatz.
Je nach Größe der Kundenbestellung können die Verbindungen
innerhalb kurzer Zeit eingerichtet werden. Dabei übernehmen die
Kollegen vom Team Interconnection Services alle anfallenden Aufgaben
wie den Kabelzuschnitt, die Durchführung der Verbindung
(Patchen) sowie die eindeutige Dokumentation der neuen Verbindung.
Die gewünschten Verbindungen sind dann üblicherweise
innerhalb von 24 Stunden bereitgestellt.

Ein weiterer Teil des Aufgabengebietes umfasst die Verwaltung
der aktuell 5 meet me room-Flächen (T1 bis T5). Diese unterscheiden
sich in der Art der dort durchgeführten physikalischen Verbindung
(Kupfer und Glas gemischt, nur Kupfer oder nur Glasfaser).
So präsentieren sich z. B. im meet me room T4 interne Kunden, die
bei ancotel auch Colocation Fläche angemietet haben, zusammen
mit externen Kunden aus dem „Metro-Bereich“. Metro steht für
Metropolitan Network. Als Metro-Netze werden Netzwerke
bezeichnet, die von eigenständigen Netzbetreibern betrieben werden,
aber keinen direkten Teilnehmerzugang haben. Es handelt
sich um ein zwischen den Anschlussnetzen und den Kernnetzen
liegendes Glasfasernetzwerk, das wie die klassischen Stadtnetze
von kommunalen Einrichtungen, von regionalen Banken oder Versorgungsunternehmen
betrieben wird. Metro-Netze stellen
Zubringerdienste für die Kernnetze zur Verfügung.
Prinzipiell kann der Kunde bei ancotel wählen, ob er sein eigenes
Equipment nutzt oder ob ancotel die technische Infrastruktur zur
Verfügung stellt. Gerade die Kunden aus dem Ausland stellen aus
Kostengründen ihre Server bei ancotel unter. In diesem Fall kommen
auf das Team Interconnection Services weitere Aufgaben zu,
wie z. B. die Annahme von neuen Servern, die installiert und nach
Kundenvorgaben konfiguriert werden. Durch diesen Service sparen
vor allem ausländische Kunden Kosten und Aufwendungen,
da Reise- und Lieferkosten entfallen.
Wenn die Kunden eigene Geräte auf der Colocation Fläche aufbauen
möchten, ist das Team Interconnection Services von der
Annahme über den Aufbau bis hin zur Inbetriebnahme für den
ordnungsgemäßen Ablauf verantwortlich.
A further element of the team remit is the management of

in particular make their servers subordinate to ancotel.

which must be installed and configured according to
customer specifications. With this service, foreign customers
in particular save on costs and expenditure, as there
are no travel and delivery costs.

Darüber hinaus bietet das Team noch weitere, von den Kunden
gern genutzte Supportdienste an:
• Leitungsmessungen von Kupfer- oder optischen Verbindungen
Sobald eine neue Leitung hergestellt wurde, muss getestet werden,
ob die Verbindung und der Datenfluss innerhalb der Leitung
entsprechend der Bestellung des Kunden auch perfekt funktionieren.
Bei einer Neubestellung von Leitungen werden diese nach der
Schaltung standardmäßig und kostenlos durchgemessen.
Auf Kundenwunsch wird aber auch die Signalqualität auf schon
bestehenden Leitungen gemessen. Dafür stehen bei Kupferkabeln
PDH-/SDH- oder Ethernet-Messgeräte zur Verfügung. Für optische
Leitungen stehen „Optical Power Meter“ sowie „Optical Fiber
Identifier“ bereit. Das Besondere an letzterem Gerät ist, dass eine
Leitung unterbrechungsfrei daraufhin überprüft werden kann, ob
sie ein optisches Signal transportiert. Dies ist ein großer Vorteil, da
gerade bei Leitungen mit hohen Bitraten schon kürzeste Unterbrechungen,
wie bei einer traditionellen Glasfasermessung nötig,
dem Provider enorme Verluste bereiten können.

• Migrationen von bestehenden Kundenleitungen
Die Carrier sind immer bestrebt die günstigsten Verbindungen zu
nutzen. Um dies zu erreichen, kommt es häufig vor, dass ein
Kunde den Verbindungspartner wechselt und die aktuell bestehende
Verbindung auf den neuen Partner umschwenkt. Hier gibt
es 2 Optionen für den Kunden und das Team:
1.„Hot Cut“: Eine Leitung in Betrieb soll so schnell wie möglich –
egal zu welcher Arbeitszeit – umgeschwenkt werden.
2.„Uncritical Time Cut“: Das Umschwenken kann ohne Zeitdruck,
zu jedem beliebigen Zeitpunkt durchgeführt werden.
Ein sehr wichtiges Element für den Kundenservice ist der Support
im Störungsfall, am besten in der Sprache des Kunden. Hier kann
das Team Interconnection Services – Hand in Hand mit dem Team
Carrier Support – diese Unterstützung schnell und unkompliziert in
den Sprachen Afrikaans, Deutsch, Englisch, Griechisch, Persisch,
Russisch, Serbisch und Türkisch leisten.
Nicht zu vergessen ist, dass die Mitarbeiter im Team Interconnection
Services auch die passive Verkabelung des virtuellen meetme
rooms ( ) durchführen und hierdurch allen Kunden, die diesen
Service noch nicht nutzen, die Möglichkeit zur Nutzung eröffnen.

• Migrations from existing customer lines
Carriers are always anxious to use the cheapest connections.
In order to achieve this, customers frequently change
connection partners and move their current existing connection
to a new partner. The customer and the team have
two options here:
1.“Hot cut”: an operational line is to be moved as quickly as
possible, irrespective of the working hours.
2.“Uncritical time cut”: the move can be carried out with no
time pressure, at any time desired.

Peter Kurt – everything under control
Peter Kurt – everything under control

Peter Kurt, 27, arbeitet seit dem 2. Mai als Elektriker bei ancotel im
Team Infrastructure & Security. Hier wird er zukünftig die Aufgaben
haben, Wartung, Instandhaltung, Umbau und Ausbau der
bestehenden Verkabelungen durchzuführen. Peter hat seine Ausbildung
als Elektroniker für Energie- und Gebäudetechnik erfolgreich
absolviert und bereits einige Jahre in dem Beruf gearbeitet,
bevor er zu ancotel kam. Peter hat große Ziele, die er ehrgeizig verfolgt.
So geht er neben der Arbeit noch an 3 Tagen in der Woche
auf die Techniker Abendschule, die ihn auf die Techniker Meisterschule
vorbereiten soll. Privat ist er mit Herz und Seele Vater von
2 kleinen Kindern, mit denen er seine ganze Freizeit verbringt.

Peter Kurt, 27, has been working as an Electrician in the
Infrastructure & Security team at ancotel since 2 May. Here,
in future, his tasks will be the maintenance, repair, conversion
and upgrading of existing wiring. Before coming to
ancotel, Peter had successfully completed his training as an
Electronics Technician for energy and building services engineering
and worked in the profession for a number of years.
Peter has great aims, which he pursues ambitiously. As
such, outside of work, he attends technicians’ evening classes
on 3 days per week in preparation for technicians’ college.
In private, his heart and soul is as a family man, having
