electrodes shall be bonded together. Electric equipment metal<br />
raceways and enclosures should be bonded to lightning<br />
protection conductors, or separated from lightning protection<br />
conductors in accordance with the “Standard for the Installation of<br />
Lightning Protection System,” NFPA 780. Separation from<br />
lightning protection conductors is typically 72 inches through air<br />
or 36 inches through wood or masonry. The ground connection<br />
from a television antenna for<br />
the purpose of lightning protection<br />
should<br />
be treated the same as a lightning rod ground.<br />
705. SERVICE SURGE PROTECTION<br />
Protection from lightning or power surges at the service<br />
entrance is the responsibility of the customer. NEC Article<br />
285<br />
governs the use of surge protective devices<br />
(SPD’s). Specific<br />
installation requirements for SPD’s (surge<br />
arresters or transient<br />
voltage surge suppressors, TVSS) can be found in NEC 285.23<br />
through 285.25. These devices shall not be installed in or on the<br />
meter enclosure or on the line side of any metering equipment,<br />
unless they are <strong>Company</strong> owned and maintained.
