VI. SERVICE (ENTRANCE) EQUIPMENT<br />

600. DISCONNECTING MEANS<br />

A suitable service disconnecting means must<br />

be provided<br />

for each customer's source of supply. In multiple occupancy<br />

buildings a main service disconnecting means, where required<br />

by<br />

the NEC or as specified by local ordinances, shall also be installed<br />

so as to completely disconnect all of the interior wiring at one<br />

point. In accordance with NEC Section 230.71, there shall be not<br />

more than six disconnects (without a main), per service, grouped<br />

in any one location. Each service disconnect shall be permanently<br />

marked to identify it as a service disconnect. The disconnecting<br />

means must be located in a readily accessible place either outside<br />

of a building or structure or inside nearest the point of entrance of<br />

the service conductors (per NEC Section 230.70). The<br />

disconnecting means shall plainly indicate whether it is in the<br />

open (OFF) or closed (ON) position per NEC Section 230.77.<br />

Where a circuit breaker is utilized and the handle is operated<br />

vertically,<br />

the "up" position shall be the "on" position (per NEC<br />

Section 240.81).<br />

The service equipment for permanent services shall be of a<br />

type and size as required<br />

by NEC Article 230 and shall be marked<br />

" suitable for use as service<br />

equipment" per NEC Section 230.66.<br />

The <strong>Company</strong><br />

reserves the right to seal any service disconnecting<br />

means as a general safety measure and as a protection against<br />

tampering by unauthorized persons. The <strong>Company</strong> will not be<br />

responsible for sizing service equipment.<br />

Mounting provisions for service disconnecting means and<br />

associated<br />

equipment shall be furnished and installed by the<br />

custom er. They shall solidly support the equipment and provide<br />

anchorage<br />

for cables and conduits attached to the service<br />

equipment. Where located in basements,<br />

an air space shall be<br />

provided<br />

at the back when next to an outside wall. They shall be<br />
