407. MANUFACTURED BUILDINGS AND MODULAR<br />
HOMES<br />
A manufactured building [a building made or assembled<br />
in manufacturing facilities for installation, or for assembly and<br />
installation, on the building site] may have the service<br />
equipment installed in or on the structure; provided the<br />
structure is of sufficiently sound construction<br />
and complies with<br />
applicable building codes, such as, "BOCA."<br />
Manufactured<br />
buildings are covered in NEC Article 545, and electrical service to<br />
them s hall comply with the standard services in this handbook and<br />
NEC Article 230.<br />
A "manufactured building" that complies with NEC Article<br />
545 and the applicable building codes as approved by the <strong>Maine</strong><br />
Manufactured Housing Board, may be designed and constructed<br />
for use as a dwelling unit (usually referred to as a modular<br />
home). These homes, as defined in <strong>Maine</strong> law (Title 10,<br />
Chapter<br />
951, Manufactured Housing Act, § 9002), are "Manufactured<br />
housing," type B, "meaning structures, transportable in one or<br />
more sections, which are not constructed on a permanent<br />
chassis and are designed to be used as dwellings on foundations."<br />
Typically, there is a label/information sheet (inside the cabinet<br />
below the kitchen sink) indicating the applicable codes to which<br />
the building was constructed, as well as, certification of<br />
compliance<br />
as State of <strong>Maine</strong> "certified manufactured<br />
housing." A modular home is typically a ranch or Cape Cod<br />
