IV. OVERHEAD SERVICE<br />

400. SERVICE DROP<br />

For single phase service, the company will furnish, install,<br />

own and maintain the overhead service drop, running from its<br />

secondary distribution system to a designated point on the<br />

customer's premises. It shall be the responsibility of the owner<br />

or<br />

contractor<br />

to have the point of attachment<br />

determined by the<br />

<strong>Company</strong> so that a solid fastening for the service drop may be<br />

incorporated in the building. The customer shall install a standard<br />

hook or eye bolt, furnished by the <strong>Company</strong>, in accordance with<br />

NEC,<br />

Section 230.54(C). For services to low buildings or where<br />

the style of building construction does not readily permit the<br />

installation of the standard hook or eye bolt, the customer will,<br />

with <strong>Company</strong> approval, install a mast type service or provide an<br />

alternate means of attachment for the service drop. Refer to<br />

Illustration No. 3, in Section XII for a Mast Type Service.<br />

In accordance<br />

with NEC Section 230.27, service drops shall<br />

be attached to buildings or other structures by fittings identified<br />

for use with service conductors. Per NEC Section 230.10,<br />

“vegetation such as trees shall not be used for support of overhead<br />

service conductors.”<br />

For polyphase service, the customer shall be responsible<br />

the cost of any overhead service drop.<br />

401. SERVICE DROP CLEARANCE<br />

In general, the ground clearance for triplex and quadraplex<br />

service<br />

drops, including drip loops, shall be not less than 12 feet<br />

for spaces accessible to pedestrians only, 15 feet over residential<br />

driveways, 18 feet over public ways,<br />

and 24 feet over railroads.<br />

Additi onally, a 20-foot clearance over State/State Aid roads is<br />
