XI. UTILIZATION EQUIPMENT<br />

SPECIFICATIONS<br />

1100. GENERAL<br />

Electric service must not be used in such manner as to cause<br />

unusual fluctuations or disturbances in the <strong>Company</strong>'s supply<br />

system. Operation of the customer's equipment shall not cause<br />

more than a 3% voltage fluctuation on the <strong>Company</strong>'s primary<br />

distribution system. In the case of violation of this rule and<br />

subject to the <strong>Maine</strong> Public Utilities Commissions' Chapters 810<br />

and 860, the <strong>Company</strong> may refuse to connect service, may<br />

discontinue service or require the customer to make modifications<br />

or install approved controlling devices. Motor and other<br />

installations connected to the <strong>Company</strong>'s lines may be restricted in<br />

the use of starting or inrush current and must conform to the<br />

requirements of the <strong>Company</strong> and the NEC as to wiring, kind of<br />

equipment and control devices. The <strong>Company</strong> will make the<br />

necessary calculations to determine the effect utilization<br />

equipment may have on its system.<br />

1101. MOTOR SPECIFICATIONS<br />

A. Limitation of size. The <strong>Company</strong> reserves the right to<br />

refuse service to the following:<br />

1. Single-phase motors larger than 5 hp. Single-phase<br />

motors of larger rating may be permitted, provided the<br />

<strong>Company</strong>'s facilities are adequate to supply the service and<br />

provided the use of such motor or motors does not interfere<br />

with the quality of service rendered to other customers.<br />

2. Polyphase motors larger than 5 hp. operated from a<br />

single-phase service by use of a phase converter.<br />
