RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Soil pHH20 in the control plot was 7.02, which is 0.3 pHH2O lesser than the initial value
(7.3). Very similar pH values were measured with the different treatments and the
different fertilizer type or doses practically did not change the soil acidity. On an
average of the doses, 40 years long-term FYM and equivalent NPK treatments resulted
in pHH20 values of 6.94 and 6.99, respectively (Figure 1). Not even the treatments with
the highest NPK content caused lower pH values.

TOC content of soil was evaluated in two sampling dates, in the 20 th and 40 th years of
the field experiment. The type of the fertilizer influenced the organic matter content of
the soil definitely (Figure 2) FYM treatments alone increased TOC by 17% on the
average, while equivalent NPK doses only by 7%, as compared to the control plot. A
clear- cut conclusion about the effect of combined treatments on the TOC content can
not be drawn. No definite change in the TOC content could be detected as an affect of
20- or 40-years organic and/or mineral fertilization.
