The repartition of the provenience areas cases was dominated by the rural area with 16
cases (55% ), versus the urban area with 13 cases ( 45% ), without being noticed any
significant difference.

The months with the most cases of botulism were February with 12 cases (41.4%) and
may with 7 cases (24.1% ).
The way of the transmission was digestive: in 22 cases (75.86% ) there were
incriminated prepared meals from pork meat (smoked bacon, smoked sausages home
prepared ), 4 cases (13.79 % ) were correlated with the consume of the vegetal tinned
food and only in 3 cases (10.34% ) the epidemiological survey was negative. There
were described 5 familial hotbeds (each of them with 2-5 persons ), the rest of cases
evolving individually.
The average period of time from the possible infection till the appearance of the
first signs was of two days.
All of the cases evolved with ocular paralyses (diplopia, troubles of adaptation,
palpebral ptosis, midriasis ), paralyses of the pharynx muscles (disphagia, disartry,
disphony, queasiness reflex diminution and the abolition of the velopalatin reflex) with
secretor troubles (mucosa dryness) and marked asthenia. In 6 (26.8%) cases there were
described paroxistical abdominal pains with meteorism, 7 (24.13%)cases developed
urine acute retention, in one case (3.44%) it was associated the paralysis of the
respiratory muscles and in one case (3.44%) it evolved with coma. 27 (93.10%) patients
developed average forms of disease, in 2 (6.89%) cases the evolution being severe with
respiratory paralysis, respectively coma.
The evolution was favorable under the etiological treatment with polyvalent
antibotulinic serum (in doze of 20-50ml/day on adult, and 10-25ml/day on child),
antibiotherapy (in the 2 severe cases) symptomatic alimentation through the gastric
probe.
