COMPARATIVE TESTS FOR SEPARATION METHODS OF
ORGANOCHLORINE PESTICIDES IN MILK

In the case of food that contains more than 2%, OCP, is determined through separation,
together with fat. This is why the comparison of various methods presented by the
specialised literature through which it can be separated from milk fat, is very useful.
The validity of the methods has been tested through the comparison of the determined
values with the ones determined through the reference method indicated for the
determination of milky fat. The application of various methods shows that there are not
major quantitative differences; however, some of them are closet to the reference
values. This thing is good to know in order to be able to apply in safety conditions, the
fastest method, the less expensive or, simply, the most accessible in the laboratory that
performs the determination.

1. INTRODUCTION
Fat separation from milk is the first phase in OCP determination, from milk. Despite the
fact that OCP usage has been limited due to the toxic effects and bioaccumulation,
research on this kind of food contaminant is necessary because they occur under
sanitary - veterinary surveillance (Savu C-tin and Georgescu Narcisa, 2004). The
monitoring of food chemical contamination, is an essential compound of food safety
and, according to Codex Alimentarius, it supplies valuable information on the identity
of chemical contaminants for the selection of priorities in what regards their follow-up
and limits. The program GEMS/FOOD (Global Environment Monitoring System/Food
Contamination Monitoring and Assessment Program) of evaluation of the chemical
contaminants level in foods, is essential to reach this purpose. According to this
program we can observe that the determinations do not refer only to the primary foods
such as milk and diary but also to the ones along the food chain, that can be responsible
of contamination. In this regard we can state exemplify the cereals. The organochlorine
compounds are followed to the total diets, as shown in Table 1
