Sand-improvement with lupin green manure as second crop ploughed under in autumn

Crop 1: rye with N, P and K fertilization, followed by lupin green manure
Crop 2: potato with P and K fertilization
Crop 3: rye with N, P and K fertilization
Rye yields from the above regimes were analyzed in the years 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005
and 2006.
Sampling areas were designated in each plot before harvesting the crop.
Measurements were performed on the height of rye plants, length of the spikes, number
of spikes, thousand grain weight, and rye yield. We were seeking for possible
correlations between yield and yield components of rye, and data of rainfall and
temperature at Nyíregyháza.
RESULTS
The yearly and monthly rainfall totals at Nyíregyháza are presented in Table 1. On the
basis of the yearly rainfall, the year 2003 can be characterized as deficient in rainfall
(432 mm), while in the year 2004 there was an abundance of rainfall (704 mm). Rainfall
in the rest of the years was around the average.
The yearly and monthly mean temperature values measured at Nyíregyháza are
presented in Table 2. On the basis of the yearly mean temperature, the coolest year was
2005 (9.6 °C). Warmer than 2005 and close to each other were 2003 (9.9 °C), 2004 and
2006 (10.1 and 10.2 °C). The hottest year was 2002 (11.1 °C).
