These results verify the need for testing the relationship between phosphorus and zinc in new varieties/hybrids, on the one hand by analysing plant samples from the early stage of the growing year, on the other hand by analysing the peas, thus we can obtain information on the trypthophan content as well. Our earlier results showed that increasing rates of NPK fertilizers decresed the tryptophan content, as the P-Zn ion antagonism decreased the intake of Zn. CONCLUSIONS 1. It was verified with experiments that the determination of tryptohan can be reliable performed by alkaline hydrolysis. 2. Data from literature show that the tryptophan content of peas can be reliably performed using the presented method. 3. Increasing phosphorus rates decreased the zinc intake due to the P-Zn antagonism and led to decreased tryptophan content. 4. Our data was included in the database, and the introduced method can be applied to analyse samples from field trials examining varieties and fertilization of leguminous crops as well. 218
