Euroregion is extending both horizontally and vertically 3 .
This structure was organised through bilateral participation, which endows it with a
high rate of functionality and an increased focus on specific problems that derive from
the interfacing position of the two areas.
The favourable cross-border cooperation premises in the Bihor - Hajdú-Bihar
Euroregion also derive from the fact that, especially during the past few years, the
majority of the economic and decisional factors have accepted the perspective of crossborder
development. The following aspects determine the complexity of the crossborder
dimension in our region:
- Dimensionally speaking, the Euroregion is a structure of medium value because
of its surface (13 755
km 2 ) and its number
of inhabitants (about
1.1 mil.), which
means that it
represents a substate
structure.
- With regard to
the shape of the
Euroregion, it is
similar to that of a
highly functional
system, thus ensuring
a balanced
distribution of
localities in the
territory in relation to
the county’s residence
(Oradea and
Debrecen) as well as
in relation to the other
cities.
- The Euroregion
represents a crossborder
cooperation
structure (Ilieş Al.,
2003) situated in
