violet morocco binding, gilt on spine and sides,
dentelle end edges in gilt. The first and only edition, with
7 aquatint plates printed in colour and finished by hand by
F. Hegui after G. Lory. Another issue appeared with the
plates printed in sanguigna, uncoloured. Two of the plates
are after G. Lory, père, while the rest are by his son. A fine
large-paper copy, light foxing to some 5 leaves of text, all
the plates in perfect condition with very fresh colours.

title woodcut of St. Jerome and 65 botanical woodcuts on
half page. Uncommon edition of the first printed herbal to
relate solely to the medicinal properties of plants. The
authorship is attributed to an unknown Macer, identified
as Odo de Meung, a medieval French physician. Very rare
