First edition of Charlotte Brontë’s (1816 - 1855) pseudonymously published first novel and the first published work of any of the Brontë sisters: “Wuthering Heights” (Emily) and “Agnes Grey” (Anne) will follow in the same year. The most important English novel of the Victorian period was printed in 500 copies only, and it was thought by many reviewers to be written by a man. This is copy n. 33 on the only 44 printed. Famous set of decorative and fascinating prints “belle époque” by Leonetto Cappiello (Livorno 1675-Cannes 1942). Uncommon, complete and perfect copy Bénézit., III, 210 “Il présente les portraits de toutes les gloires du théatre du moment”. [10509] 18. dANTe ALIGhIeRI. La divina commedia, con la Vita e il commento. Venice, B. Benali and M. Capcasa, 1491, p. on r. folio, 302 ll., bound in ancient vellum. Illustrated by 97 woodcut vignettes and with 4 full-page woodcuts within decorated borders. A great number of woodcut decorated initials on black ground. This is the first edition with illustrations to paradise and the first revised by Pietro da Fighine and with the Commentary by Landino, The Commedia is followed by Credo, Dieci Comandamenti, Sette Salmi, Pater Noster and Ave Maria. A higly important copy with manuscript annotations added in the 17 th century inspired by the relationship between Rosicrucianism and Dante, related to the Amphiteatrum Sapientiae Aeternae of 1609 by the German alchemist and mistic, follower of Paracelsus, Heinric Khunrath.
