A Rewarding Experience<br />

While attending City College I had the<br />
opportunity to take some Criminology<br />
classes. This last semester I took a work<br />
experience class and was placed with PAL<br />
to work at Ocanview Park.<br />
I worked three days a week in the game<br />
room at the park. My duties included escorting<br />
the kids from St. Michael's school to<br />
and from the park on Tuesdays and working<br />
with the kids in the game room the rest<br />
of the day. On Wednesdays and<br />
Thursdays I stayed in the game room and<br />
tried to instill some sense of responsibility<br />
in the kids, helping them learn to take care<br />
of the room, equipment, play ping-pong<br />
and other games. It has been a long time<br />
since I have played so much ping-pong.<br />
The greatest reward for me came the last<br />
week of the program when I overheard one<br />
of the kids tell another not to tear up the<br />
equipment because if it was torn up they<br />
would not have anything to play with. I<br />

$1,500 for special programs in honor of Captain Cairns.<br />

Castagnolas, Sabella and La Torre, Fisherman's Grotto, Alioto's 8, and Tarantino's.<br />
They wouldn't say how they raised the money except, 'It was a joke."<br />
