The Berggruen Museum displays important works
of Classical Modernism, primarily pieces by Picasso,
Klee, Giacometti und Matisse.

Brassaï Brassaï. In the Studio and on the Street
The Museum Berggruen and the Sammlung
Scharf-Gerstenberg (directly opposite) host an
unusual double exhibition from the Nationalgalerie
with works by the Hungarian photographer
Brassaï (1899–1984). Alongside his fellow countrymen
André Kertész and Henri Cartier-Bresson,
Brassaï was one of the three Greats of the 1930s
French photography scene. In the Museum Berggruen
Brassaï’s portraits and studio photographs
lead us into the world of his artist friends Picasso
and Matisse, Giacometti and Braque. They portray
paintings and sculptures have a strange life
of their own in the studios and which are today on
display in the Museum Berggruen.

The museum is dedicated to the courageous factory
owner Otto Weidt, who sought to save Jews
from deportation during World War II, employing
mostly blind and deaf Jews in the factory.

songs and poems from Theresienstadt ghetto.
