The Berggruen Museum displays important works<br />
of Classical Mo<strong>der</strong>nism, primarily pieces by Picasso,<br />
Klee, Giacometti und Matisse.<br />

Brassaï Brassaï. In the Studio and on the Street<br />
The Museum Berggruen and the Sammlung<br />
Scharf-Gerstenberg (directly opposite) host an<br />
unusual double exhibition from the Nationalgalerie<br />
with works by the Hungarian photographer<br />
Brassaï (1899–1984). Alongside his fellow countrymen<br />
André Kertész and Henri Cartier-Bresson,<br />
Brassaï was one of the three Greats of the 1930s<br />
French photography scene. In the Museum Berggruen<br />
Brassaï’s portraits and studio photographs<br />
lead us into the world of his artist friends Picasso<br />
and Matisse, Giacometti and Braque. They portray<br />
paintings and sculptures have a strange life<br />
of their own in the studios and which are today on<br />
display in the Museum Berggruen.<br />

The museum is dedicated to the courageous factory<br />
owner Otto Weidt, who sought to save Jews<br />
from deportation during World War II, employing<br />
mostly blind and deaf Jews in the factory.<br />
