The Freie Universität Berlin’s collection contains<br />
approx. 2000 plaster casts of Greek and Roman<br />
sculptures. It serves primarily for training and research<br />
purposes, but is also open to the public as<br />
a museum.<br />

The Ways of the Sphinx: Monsters between the<br />
Orient and the Occident<br />
What does the Great Sphinx of Giza in Egypt have<br />
to do with the Sphinx in Greek mythology? What<br />
forms and meaning did the monster have in the<br />
ancient world? These and other questions are<br />
explored by the special exhibition. Selected casts<br />
are complemented by drawings based on classical<br />
designs by the illustrator Konrad Eyferth.<br />
