First Lutheran Church & School to host Blood Drive, July 12
First Lutheran Church and School Temple City will
be hosting its second American Red Cross blood drive
of 2009 in the Parish Hall from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday,
July 12. The local community is not only welcome, but
urged to participate, as there is a blood shortage that
occurs in the area every summer.
First Lutheran has been participating in two to three
Red Cross community blood drives annually for well
over 25 years as a way of giving back to the community
where they are located.

Sunrise Church joins in Call 2 Fall prayer Sunday, July 5
Sunrise Community Church is joining with thousands
of other churches across the nation on Sunday,
July 5, to pray for our nation with Call 2 Fall. Call 2 Fall
is not a promotion, but a movement of people who realize
this nation has become derailed because it has
chased after empty promises.
“As we celebrate the independence of our nation,
followers of Christ recognize we need to fall
to our knees and ask God to reshape our lives and
renew our land by turning to Him in prayer for
repentance and restoration,” Pastor Andrew Kikkert
said. “Sunrise will join with other churches through
out America to collectively pray for our nation to
awaken to her need for dependence on God and
crying out for God to heal our souls and our land
in the services at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, July 5.”
“History teaches us our nation was created with
an awareness of our need for the Almighty God as
we sought independence from the world superpower
of that time,” Kikkert said.
Sunrise Community Church is an independent,
non-denominational church which has been ministering
in the San Gabriel Valley for more than 25
years. Sunrise is located at 9642 Live Oak Ave.,
Temple City and is committed to worshipping God,
equipping the Saints and proclaiming the gospel

Methodists change worship time
First United Methodist Church of Temple City has
changed the morning worship service time to 9:30 a.m.
starting Sunday, June 28. The church will revert to the
fall schedule on Sunday, Sept. 13.
The adult Sunday School is now suspended for the
summer and will resume in the fall. The church also
will be welcoming a new pastor, the Rev. David Palmer
and his wife, Beth and son, Ethan, on July 12.
Pastor Palmer comes to Temple City First from Glendale
UMC where he was the Pastor for Spiritual Formation
for the last 2-1/2 years. He was a missionary to
Khabarovsk, Russia, and was part of organizing the first
United Methodist Church in the Far Eastern part of
Russia.
The public is invited to come and help the UMC celebrate
not only in the worship service but also welcoming
Rev. Palmer on July 12.
The Alzheimer’s Association will have a speaker to
talk about a “Healthy Body and Healthy Brain,” at 4 p.m.
Saturday, July 18, in Fellowship Hall. The public is invited
to come and join this free event and learn more
about being healthy.
Have you or a family member or a friend attended
our church sometime in the past, either as a member
or a visitor? The church is looking for those who might
have come here for an event or worship and can share
their story and history with us as it celebrates its 100th
year on Oct. 10, 2010.
Ladies are invited to come to a Crafty Ladies group
which meets on the first Wednesday of each month at
6:30 p.m., in Room 4 (Woodruff side of building) for
about two hours of fun and fellowship. They meet on
the last two Fridays of the month at 2 p.m. in the same
room.
This is an intergenerational group of ladies who not
only work on their crafts but also share their skills and
each other’s company. Bringing a craft to work on is
not required, and this is a time to have fellowship and
fun with other ladies who share common interests. Call
