found a tiny hole in the smooth<br />
overhang just big enough for<br />
two fingers“, said Roger describing<br />
with great joy his „Wave<br />
Up“ climb and adding: „I want<br />
to thank Christoph for finding<br />
this really tough route. For me<br />
it was the toughest challenge<br />
in my climbing career to date.<br />
According to the South African<br />
system „Wave Up“ is classed<br />
as 29, or 8b. But in the final<br />
analysis, the difficulty rating for<br />
such a top class route is not important.<br />
I‘m just delighted that I<br />
managed it.“<br />

In a joint project with the Technical University<br />
Munich (TUM), <strong>SALEWA</strong> is developing a new climbing<br />
carabiner – the ERGOTEC. Its ergonomic operation<br />
makes it much more easy to use. The climber<br />
saves on effort and energy. With the ERGOTEC,<br />
nothing stands in the way of complete focus and<br />
concentration on the climbing itself. That means:<br />
more safety when climbing as there are fewer<br />
sources of error.<br />
With the support of Professor Bubb from TUM,<br />
<strong>SALEWA</strong> set itself the goal of developing a carabiner<br />
which takes into account the ergonomic characteristics<br />
and anthropometric data of hand measurements, and<br />
which is therefore also specially designed to match the<br />
special requirements of via ferrata climbing.<br />
this goal Was achieved: Lab tests at Research<br />
unit for Sports <strong>Equipment</strong> and Devices (Professor<br />
Senner) with children and adults give fully confirmation<br />
of theoretical predictions that it saves energy, is<br />
user-friendly and is easy to use. An approximately<br />
30% measured reduction of muscle activity to<br />
operate make this new carabiner the perfect companion<br />
on via ferrata. In every situation, ERGOTEC<br />
is childsplay to clip in / out. Much effort is saved in<br />
operation, and this facilitates a very comfortable and<br />
speedy clipping-in along the fixed rope.<br />
