6.1 Safety precautions<br />

6. - MAINTEN<strong>AN</strong>CE OF THE <strong>JIB</strong> CR<strong>AN</strong>E<br />

§ The precautions to prevent accidents contained in this paragraph must always be strictly adhered to<br />

during maintenance work, with the aim of avoiding damage to staff and to the hoist.<br />

• Maintenance staff of the jib crane must:<br />

• be well trained<br />

• have read this publication<br />

• have an excellent knowledge of the accident prevention regulations<br />

• Unauthorised staff must be outside the work area during operations<br />

§ Such precautions are covered in greater detail in this chapter, whenever a procedure which may carry a<br />

risk of damage or accident is required, through WARNING and D<strong>AN</strong>GER notes:<br />

WARNING notes precede an operation which, if not correctly carried out, may cause<br />

damage to the crane and its components..<br />

D<strong>AN</strong>GER notes precede an operation which, if not correctly carried out, may cause<br />

injury to the operator.<br />

Pay attention to the following WARNING NOTES during maintenance work:<br />

Before putting the jib crane back into operation after a breakdown, it must be<br />

inspected thoroughly and checked for evidence of any damage which may<br />

have occurred and the procedure in paragraph 5.3 must be repeated<br />

Never alter the settings or positionings of the safety devices, unless expressly<br />

required in order to deal with a breakdown. Tampering with them can cause<br />

serious damage to the crane and its components.<br />
