The <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Dental</strong> <strong>Association</strong> (CDA) is seeking nominations for the 2004 Oral Health Promotion Award.<br />
This award recognizes individuals or organizations who have improved the oral health of <strong>Canadian</strong>s<br />
through oral health promotion.<br />
Oral health promotion aims to increase the control of individuals and communities over their oral health. It<br />
involves members of those communities and adopts a number of complimentary approaches. These<br />
include building healthy public policy, creating supportive environments, strengthening community action,<br />
developing personal skills, and increasing the prevention of oral diseases and disorders.<br />
Programs, projects, and policies recognized by the Oral Health Promotion Award would include, but not<br />
be limited to, those that:<br />
• meet the oral health needs of the growing number of older <strong>Canadian</strong>s;<br />
• increase the prevention of oral diseases and disorders in special populations and high-risk groups;<br />
and<br />
• reduce inequalities by improving the oral health status of disadvantaged groups and communities.<br />
Entry Criteria<br />
1. Any individual or organization responsible for creating and implementing a project, program, or policy<br />
concerned with oral health promotion may submit an entry.<br />
2. Programs or projects that are developed to promote a commercial product or service are not eligible.<br />
Evaluation Criteria<br />
Programs (or projects or policies) will be evaluated using the following criteria:<br />
1. Goals and objectives of the program;<br />
2. Oral health care need addressed by the program;<br />
3. Number of people served by the program, as compared to the size of the target populations;<br />
4. Level of community and/or volunteer involvement;<br />
5. Documented accomplishment of the program goals;<br />
6. History of, or potential for, continuous program operation; and<br />
7. Ease of duplication by other individuals/organizations.<br />
The CDA Nominating Committee will review all nominations and supporting documents and CDA’s<br />
Committee on Community and Institutional Dentistry will be consulted, prior to the Nominating<br />
Committee’s recommendation of the award recipient to the Board of Directors.<br />
